Sunsilver

by Sunsilver on 09 April 2010 - 20:04

This is Zamp's GRANDSON.

Zamp is in my file of German shepherds I like the look of. However, one of the measures of a dog's true greatness is what he produces. If this puppy is typical, NO THANK YOU.

OTOH, I know Zamp DID produce some excellent progeny, or he WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SIEGER.

On the fourth hand, far too many showline puppies are being produced with weak, overangulated rear ends

Oh hell, why bother? Pretty soon if this fad continues, the only difference between the German butt-draggers and hock walkers and the American butt-draggers and hock walkers will be the banana back!

My female is a cross between German and American lines. She walks on her feet the way a dog should.

GSDRULE.....Bite you? I'll pass thank you. " I don't look for this shit, it pops up every day on this web site" And there lies YOUR problem, try brodening your horizons beyond this database. Instead of using this ONE gsd forum to hunt for victims of your very biased opinions, get off your butt and look at REAL dogs in the REAL world. But of course you, with your one pet dog, are now expert because of your vast knowledge on non flattering "PHOTO'S" found on this site, this of course is the same as Sunsilver but she goes one better by quoting authors and is a dab hand at cut and paste. Get a life away from your computers girls it is not healthy. My quote of the day.... There are those who know nothing and those who don't know they know nothing, sad, but oh so true. Thankfully your ilk are a minority.
And now we have Sunsilver taking on Zamp...... ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS,lol.

Your ignorance is showing.  You have no idea what websites I frequent or how many shows I have been to or what books I have read or who I have talked to.  Just because I don't show and breed, doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on what I see.

You won't bite me?  Got weak nerves?

by bazza on 10 April 2010 - 08:04

Of course you can have an opinion, just glad your opinions are in the minority. I too have mine, thank you. You are right I do not know what websites, books, shows you are into, but judging by your opinion and attitude I can guess, lol. There is NOTHING better than hands on experience of many many years, something you seem to have very little of. Did you gain that vast knowledge you seem to think you have just from books, websites, etc etc? Well that kind of explains it all. No my friend YOUR IGNORANCE HAS SHONE OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Your opinion, on most subjects, is EXTREME to say the least. Go get some hands on experience and maybe just maybe in 20/30 years you will have gained enough experience and knowledge to converse with the big boys, lol.
No weak nerves here missy/sonny, I am just particular what I put in my mouth, as I have experienced food poisoning before so once again NO THANKS!!!

Bazza, I never claimed to have "vast knowledge."  I just pointed out your arrogance in thinking you know how much knowledge and research I have done.  Your ridiculous notion that ONLY people that breed and show know what's going on.

"Vast knowledge" doesn't seem to be helping the showing and breeding of GSD's.

All you have to do is open your mind and your eyes and the evidence is right there in front of you.

Show rings are full of badly conformed and poor moving dogs.  You breeders and show people put them there,
now you can't whine when people object to what they see.

The saying "The emperor has no clothes" comes to mind.

I'm going to gingerly step into this argument.  Zamp was a great competitor.  However he was also bred to a lot of females who may not have produced a full liter of dogs that reflected the best characteristics of both parents.  Regardless, the breeder will sell them to the less than knowledgeable rube.  It happens all the time to many excellent sires.  Also, some of the pictures shown portray dogs that have been badly posed or shot from an angle that exagerates a particular trait.  That is not fair to the dog, and may just be amateurish photography.  I'm certain that Zamp's (or dogs of that caliber) pictures were not taken by its owner.

That being said, there are a lot of people who after plunking down a substantial amount of money on a dog or bitch will breed that dog to the best pedigree they can find without researching wether or not the cross will improve upon the parents, or even to see if the offspring will replicate in type either of the parents.  That is how puppies from good pedigreed parents get sold at high prices to the unsuspecting uneducated who end up  with a dog that is not worth anything close to what they paid.  However, the pedigree looks impressive.  And yes, the proud owners pop all over the place thinking that they have a diamond, when in reality it is more like a half baked chunk of carbon.  Research and detail work is what makes a good breeder better than his peers.  I've known of an occasional "BYB" who take more care in the selection of their pairings than some breeding operations.

I'm a fan of the natural "stack" that any GSD gets into when alerted by his senses.  BTW, although I'm a fan of the straight back old style east German shepherd, Lartus v Kirschental is a fine looking specimen

"Weak nerves" to me means unable to have a discussion about differing opinions within our sport/hobby without becoming "defensive" and showing our teeth or "nipping" (via the internet!)
