This thread was started to bash someone. Many participated with no firsthand knowledge or dealings with the kennel.
The one person who does have first hand experience takes the time to share and seems to do so very honestly. She described her impressions of the kennel very throughly, the dog her son got, the dog she got. The mistakes she felt she made and what she learned from making them. And then ends up getting bashed for sharing.
Where was all this indignation when the thread started and the references to TOS, 3 pages later.
goodwink is not only novice to the GSD but new to this community. Do some of you honestly feel that your status is enhanced by being rude to people who are in the same place we all were at one time.

"And then ends up getting bashed for sharing."
She wasn't bashed. Seems she was bluntly told to organize her thoughts better. Two enormous posts about her "bad experience" turned out to be she thinks she got an absolutely fantastic dog who had one fixable medical issue. Doesn't that seem a little lopsided to you? Good grief, Rik, even Yogi doesn't agree with her! "I dont happen to share her view point on her dog... I don't think her dog has bad nerves.."

You must've missed it. There were a number of posts that disappeared.

Nice try. Do you really, really think that Pirates Lair or me or anyone here is saying to themselves, oh, boy, I just enhanced my status on this here board by being rude? Puh-leese. And I say again, they weren't rude. No need for goodwink to get all offended, either. I appreciate that she tried to honestly share an experience, but I do agree that she ended up saying a lot more positive things about the kennel than negative. So I'm sure whoever asked her to come on here - because she said someone did ask her since the second & third hand bashing wasn't going over with the Mods - must be quite disappointed in their lack of success.
Personally, I hope goodwink has great fun and achieves much with her dog. Regardless, I agree that this dog is lucky to have found an owner who seems so devoted and so willing to help her achieve her full potential, and reading about dog-owner relationships like that is a very happy thing!

"Goodwikn had purchased a dog with Mange.....is that not an issue?"
Yes, absolutely I agree with you. I'd be furious. I'd also be mad at myself for not noticing!! But this is a newbie, so ok. Yes, definitely an issue.
And if you'll notice, this first-hand listing of good & bad has been left up by the Moderators, so looks like it's agreed that goodwin's post isn't considered a bash but an attempt to state her true first-hand experiences, both good and bad.

Okay...I responded to Tess last night but removed it bc it seems pointless...but...I started this so here it goes...in my original post I was trying to be kind and ended up sounding ignorant and wishy washy...I apologize...what I meant to say was....
1. I went to this breeder as a novice and explained to him that I was interested in a dog for home protection/schutzhund training and possibly for breeding someday. He directed me to my girl and said that "she was the best pup he had for Schutzhund training, and that she was something else", and if I just wanted a home companion dog, she was not the one for me. As stated earlier, my fault for not knowing my stuff!
2. I got a dog with Mange. None of the dogs "looked mangy" when I got her so I'm not sure how I was supposed to recognize it. The hair on Katy's face started falling out a few months after I got her home. Breeder said he would send me medicine and he never did.
3. I got a dog with weak nerves...of this I am sure. From the time I brought her home until about 2 months ago, she has been afraid of her own shadow. She is skiddish, and runs away from just about anything. I have spent 7 months socializing her and building her confidence. I do think this has made the difference. And yes, she does still shy away from a lot of things. It may still be a training issue.
4. This breeder is willing to buy my dog back at 1 year of age to breed her, knowing that she has had mange and that her nerves are questionable.
5. I bought my dog in 105 degree weather...the kennels had no cooling system and no indoor area for the dogs to escape to if they needed to cool off. There were no trees or anything surrounding the kennels to provide shade. Just a small boxed crate,
6. There was a small pond on the property that was full of snapping turtles...breeder told me that a turtle got one of his puppies. This is what you see the dogs swimming in on the breeder's website.
7. My son has a dog from this breeder and she is healthy and has good nerves.
8. Did I say I love my dog and that she was great for me? Absolutely...what the crap am I supposed to say? I am attached to her, and I am trying to make the best of what I feel is a bad situation .I'm not giving up on her...
9. Would I buy from this breeder again? NO!!! Take it at face value....it is what it is and that is MY story!!!
PS.....he also had my dogs puppy pic listed under another litter as if she was one of the puppies for sale!

Look up demedictic mange, it doesn't present until ~3-8 months of age and is hereditary. Mom gave it to Katy. There are also potential life long issues with this illness.
For me the issue is Hans K9 seems to be breeding for quanity and not quality. We researched long and hard before deciding on getting a GSD and quality breeding seemed to be the most stressed within this arena.

I posted a buyer beware. so incase anyone was looking at this kennel, they would at least do a little more homework. this wasn't a bash fest. though it could have been since Han's has repeatedly threatened to sue me in the past for calling him out on what he is. someone with no experience, and someone putting out litter after litter. the dogs spending 23.5 hours a day in a small 6x12 run in alabama heat is what bothers me, same with the feral, non socialized pups.
The person/people who have contacted me ahve been told what they need to do, If they can't grow a pair, and contact the athuroties also, not much I can do from several states away.
So, to who has had issue's with Hans K9, man up. unless you come out and speak about what was wrong there, and have proof, then those dogs are gonna continue to suffer, and that man is going to continue to buy/imore to make more $$$ on them

Uber,
Many of us commented on this guy and where he was going with his new business several years ago. It did no good because so many saw a chance to sell their dogs to someone who was ignorant and wanted to remain so. He did as he said he would, bought a slew of dogs and is breeding away like crazy and raking it in. No one cares about the situation and eventually, he will end up quitting and dumping a lot of dogs, or worse. But again, no one cares enough to do anything about it, and frankly, there really is little that can be done about situations like this. Those people who say they love the breed and think of themselves as guardians of the breed speak out about it, but too many will simply say he is free to do as he wishes, just like some others who populate this forum. After all, it is not about the dogs, but the selling of the dogs to make money. PERIOD.
It is sad, but this situation is repeated in many places all over the country. And worse yet, the conditions you describe are legal. In many states, it is legal to keep a dog in a plastic crate for 23 of 24 hours a day. It is also legal to leave dogs out in sub-zero temps or hot temperatures without shade. Each state has its own rules and if people who say they love dogs really took the time to see what conditions are and are not allowed, many would be violating the conditions themselves. As you know, there are people here who believe it is ok for a dog to have a litter and leave them in sub-zero temps. Not much you can personally do, except to speak up when laws come up for adoption or revision.

I dont know where to start, all im going to say for now is consider the source, of this thread. Hans breeds some of the best gsd's in the world, he outfits Police k9's through out this country and others. I should also mention military's around the world, USA, Israel, thats a pedigree database. This is what happens when people feel left behind in life, didnt reach there goals, so lets bash the man who has met and surpassed them. Maybe we should stick with what we know,,, Snakes. Lou
