YOU read the posts, sunsilver.  Don't be so quick to pounce, "for heaven's sake."  Sounded to me like he put the shirts around his own property: "the back deck," "on the pivot in the field," "on the front porch" - that's fine, but my suggestion was to go to where the dog had actually been seen, which was two miles away, and leave items there as well.

Also - besides the neighborhood children, stop the U.S. mailmen and the UPS and Fed Ex drivers - they see a lot driving around all day.

 Hi,
I have been reading this thread for 3 days now and I have a question. Why didn't your dog come home if she's been seen alive?
I wish all the best to ya'll but if the dog is ok why she doesn't come home? Dogs will chase things and come home hours later but days?? I hope she's alright but you said she/he's been seen positive ID.
I don't mean to be rude, am I missing something though?
Sorry for your heartache

Have you also notified vets outside your immediate area ? Sometimes dogs are picked up on highways etc. and people will drop them off at a vet on their way home. Just a thought.

Is she tattooed or microchipped ?

"I have been reading this thread for 3 days now and I have a question. Why didn't your dog come home if she's been seen alive?"

Not all dogs are Rin Tin Tin or Lassie.  Some just get lost and either can't find their way home, or they run for longer than a few days and then do eventually find their way home.  Or someone picks them up and either keeps them, or tries to keep them, and it's a few more days until they can scoot out the door or out of the yard to start heading home.

Good luck, Halley.  Hope you have good news very soon.

If someone grabbed her and drove her to another area she might not be able to find her way back.   We had a shepherd locally that was found a state and a half away, adopted out from the pound, and the new owner eventually had the vet check for a microchip.   She was gone a couple months before it was all sorted out and she ended up safely home.  Who knows what adventures are preventing the pup from making her way back.  Snow, rain, something frightening between her and home, following some kids too far, who knows...   hoping for the best...

We weren't paying enough attention to our GSD while packing the car to leave the cottage, and she snuck off and probably chased some deer.

She came back hobbling on three legs (very nasty sprain).

It's possible something similar happened to Halley, and she's having difficulty moving around.

(I'm refraining from mentioning more depressing possibilities, but we all know what those are. Anyone who's ever worked for a vet know what the abbeviation 'HBC' means...   )

Still hoping for the best, though, and praying you find your girl safe and in good health!

I sure hope you find your girl.

I too do not understand however why people let their dogs out unattended to roam their properties. I don't care how many acres you have. I travel to NC a lot and you will be amazed at how many dogs I see every single time along highway 85 roaming with their collars on, probably coming from someone's farm/property. They come so close to the road that I fear for their lives. :(

Thank you to those who answered my question. Halley 7  I hope you get your dog home soon safely

Not helping me by repeating the same crap over and over gsdbest.  We have contacted Karen Taqwen a K-9 P.I.  She offered alot of great tips on how to look for her.  We might have her come out with her tracking dogs to help, but she won't be back in my area for another week an a half.  If Halley's not back in 2-3 days we are going to go ahead and have her come out and start the tracking.  She told me that Halley is following the river upstream, that is what dogs do, she also told me that we need to get ahead of her and work our way back.  So today I went out 2 miles from where she was last spotted and started walking.  I walked for a little under 2 miles looking for her, with no luck.  There is alot of ground to cover.  I am NOT giving up, I will NEVER give up.  We have passed out over 200 flyers and will continue to pass them out to everyone everywhere.  Thank you all again for your support and ideas.  Keep praying, I know I am.

So sad. I'm hoping for the best.
