stephanie - no they (we) do not have the right. You cannot (in this state and in others) shoot or kill your own healthy dog. It is against the law, and against human decency. And no, normal people would not compare a companion dog to livestock raised for meat, at least in this country.

@mod- Oh FFS-The puppies will be black or black and tan or some variation in between. Do you really feel that is more important to the GSD breed per the content of this forum than addressing the unintentional nature of the breeding, which would not be known to us except for the fact that he/she chose to include that fact in his/her original post?
zmoderator edit: Actually the subject of the thread is whatever the original poster wants it to be. Please feel free to start a new thread if you would like to discuss a different topic that you feel is more important, or if your concern is for this litter in particular, you can send the OP a PM.

Unreasonable and oppressive laws should be challenged. Human decency include effective stewardship of one's animals. How one chooses to execute that stewardship is a personal choice.

there are reasons for animal cruelty laws. It is against the law to shoot a healthy companion animal. It is also against the law to kill livestock inhumanely - this is America and Europe we are talking about, not the dark ages and not countries were animal cruelty laws are non-existant. There are animal cruelty laws in every state, and in Europe. You can't throw puppies into the river, you can't drown them, you can't set them on fire, you can't starve them to death in crates. You can't even tie them to your own tree in your own yard without proper shelter, nutrition and sanitation. You also can't do these things to cows or pigs. It is against the state laws, and against the laws of humanity and decency as well.

Please knock off the name calling, and while I'm here, I will take the opportunity to remind everyone that regardless of the issue, you are required to remain civil on this board.
Thank you.
Thank you.

The litter (chances are) will be healthy animals. Culling is done in nature mothers that push pups away because they can sense some thing is wrong or that they cannot supply enough food this happens all the time.
The problem with the culling statement that started the whole fire storm was the ease in which it seemed to be applied. Culling happpens and the more litters that a breeder produces the more it is bound to happen. To argue that it shouldn,t is moral and and humanistic.
We all serve our own type of poision ALL of us. Whether we shoot em,drown em, or put them in a plastic bag and put them in a freezer. Some take entire litters and the dam and put them in shelters knowing full well they won,t make it out(still culling) just easier for us to wash our hands and claim to remain noble.
If the OP can,t find good homes and decides to keep the littere then they have done the best that can be asked. If they place the pups they still have a responsibility to the pups even if there hands arent on them. Remember even the supposed best of us have issues with placing dogs just recently there was a issue of a owner of a placed dog profesing his undying love for a placed female and then just shortly after loe and behold the loving owner wants to dump the dog back because "it,s not protective enough" it,s all culling one way or the other.
Good luck with the litter and you never know you could give rise to some very nice dogs. As to the color I wouldn,t worry no matter the color they will all be beautiful i,m sure.

Hello again,
I started this thread and I would like to finish it now because I never intended for people to be nasty to each other on my account. Needless to say I will not be using this forum again, it is not at all what I expected. May I wish you all a very Happy and Peacefull New Year.
by TessJ10 on 31 December 2010 - 14:12
All the OP asked was a question about color.
Anncomax, I'm so sorry you had nasty responses. It is the internet, and so for whatever reason some people chose to ignore your question totally and get nasty. I'm truly sorry that the Moderators didn't see it sooner and warn people to stay on topic, which was the color genetics of your upcoming litter.
Note, though, that there were people who honestly answered your question - you can and will get good information here. Please stick around. Whether you do or don't, may you, too, have a Happy and Peaceful New Year!

I agree Tess, 100%.
Please reconsider your decision, Anncomax, and if I may be so bold, try to develop a little bit thicker skin, rather than let some crank drive you off. Pay no attention to someone who would suggest you cull your litter when that bad advise is based soley on the fact that it's a working/show cross. Obviously that person has no knowledge about your litter so there is no reason to take what was said seriously, believe me, no one else does.
Have a happy and safe New Year, and don't let anyone run you off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
