Silbersee, you are seeing a "fight" where there is none. No where did *I* say what my feeling about long coats was. I simply stated that it is difficult for any breed to be "divided" up between several different groups of fanciers. It doesn't keep the breed "whole", it causes splintering of the breed, like we see today in the GSD.
I'm not quite sure how you decided I was "defensive" about long coats? As a matter of fact, while I'm personally not crazy about the look, I *DO* believe they are part of the GSD breed past and present. I'm just not crazy about how the SV is handling it, because they are causing yet another division.
So, I believe we are actually on the same page...

NoCurs,
I did not mean "you". Sorry for not making myself more understandable. I have received quite a few emails, pm and personal opinions in discussions which made me wonder about people being emotional and defensive.
Personally, I think it was most unfortunate that the coats were ever pushed out. It is good that they are now being reintegrated. And I do not think tht the SV has an alternative and it does have to abide by FCI regulations. I have been wondering what would happen if the FCI does not approve? But then again: The SV would not have changed its regulations already if there were any doubts about the approval, right?
So, we should know more in a few weeks.
BTW, I like the looks of coats, but would personally not own one. And then again, there could always be one who would blow me away and I would get that feeling that the world will stand still if this dog was not mine, lol.

Are there any official links anywhere regarding this? Any updates as to what is happening?

What an interesting thread. Silbersee - agree with so much you've said, and also many others on here.
The LC is looked on as the poor relation on the show scene. Why? because the standard was (changed) to exclude them - simple. Consequently certain extreme 'Germanic' factions consider them inferior. So much so that the odd one actually have had DNA tests so that they can advertise a stud that will not produce any LC puppies. If this idea were to catch on what madness this would be, narrowing and narrowing an already saturated gene pool. Hopefully, with re-recognition, other 'germanic' breeders will not feel the need to follow this path. This action further adds fuel to Nia's remark about segregation, but IMO is short sighted in the extreme, and
I have seen some SUPERB conformation on LC's. They were originally fully accepted by the SV. So someone simply made a decision to exclude them. No genetic reasons, no good reasons at all.
I too agree that the SV should fully reintegrate the LC, not segregate them. They should be shown and let the best dog win. Too much breeding worldwide is based on current 'fashion' as dictated by the SV. Look at the black and red situation! I also wish that more blacks and sables were shown, but I guess they know there's little point.
