No doubt there are lines that are bred for defense, however the example I read appears to explain an unsocial dog, not some golden jewel Type 1 GSD. I don't think Type 1 is a real thing, I think it is a marketing scheme. They are simply dogs with higher defense.
I don't want to further derail this thread off topic talking about what some newb was discussing on another site. If you wish to discuss things further, feel free to PM me.
I see that many folks are comfortable speaking of dogs with high defense, yet fail to recognize that early eruption of said defense is often a sign of poor nerves. Remember, defense is a response to stress.

Google the topic of nerve and select the one on the schutzund village website. The concept of nerve is not a simpleton as you put it

What would any of you consider to be an appropriate response for a GSD in this situation?
by Nans gsd on 14 August 2015 - 02:08
Marjorie: I am just cracking up... Glad you are oK though; BUT what a good boy CJ is...
Well now you know what he will do in a dangerous situation.
Don't you all think that these dogs smell a situation prior to it happening?? Don't you think they (at least any dog with any type protection brain which most GSD's have) sense the situation (thru air scenting or??) before it unfolds, they are excellent at character referencing; excellent at air scenting, very territorial wanting to protect their domain and their people in "their" domain. The list goes on and on and did I mention an excellent judge of character...
This is why I absolutely love this breed. Nan
Steak dinner for CJ.

I have not one, but 2 gates to my yard. The side yard is gated and fenced with another gate going into the backyard...All I know is that CJ was in the pool swimming, one second, I turn my back to water the flowers and all hell breaks loose!!!! If you heard the blood curdling screams coming from the guy, you would have thought he was being attacked by a pack of wild hyenas! Scared the hell out of me because the pool bubblers were on, my fish pond waterfall and pond bubblers were on as well as the hose at high blast, I hear CJ going nuts, and turn, never expecting to see a huge shaved head guy lying on the ground in my yard who I never saw before, pulling my planters over..omg.... a potential movie scene, for sure. I have to stop watching criminal minds on tv! Lol!
Spoiled brat CJ gets steak every night ;)
