GSDGenetics

The dog shown as a dark bicolor is probably genetically a solid black.  A genetic solid black may have so much of the light ground color showing through the black in the coat, that it may be impossible to tell from a genetic bicolor just by looking.

Which dog are you talking about, GSDGenetics? What you are describing sounds like a black with bleedthrough, and there is no way the OP's dog is one of those...

Starchar, your dog is beautiful...I wish you many years of great fun,and more importantly, GREAT HEALTH with your dog.
I also think it is black and tan.
Some of the dogs posted here are also black and tan despite being called bi-color.
Too much question as to what is, and what isn't bi. So many call theirs bi that are not. It has become a little 'quirk' to me all the question on that color.
There are some that are 'obviously' not bi, including white blotch on chest, still calling their dogs bi.
Whichever yours is, it's Beautiful...

long haired black and tan.  Brown is not a GSD color.  Its tan light or dark not brown

Thank you for the nice compliment, Kitkat. She is now 5 months and I am seeing a tiny bit more tan on the underside of her tail and her armpit area. The coloring on her legs, chest, head, face and the rest of her body remains unchanged. Her adult coat is coming in, but she still has some puppy fur to lose, so we will see. Whatever color she turns out to be is fine with me. I just hope and pray she remains healthy and has a great temperament. So far so good, except mild pano in her femurs. I will post another photo in the future.

Poteet, Yes, no doubt she is a coatie and more than likely black and tan.

No clue about her color, but she is a beautiful puppy, Starrchar.

Kitkat, I don't think a white chest has anything to do with a deciding what color a dog is?

White mark is just something that crops up often, especially in older lines, it seems. Incidental, has nothing to do with color. A black with a white spot is still a black.

FYI- I am not making reference to the small blotch of white that occurs in a great number of dogs, regardless of the color.
I am talking about the big white blotches than blends into so much cream color that occupies lamps the entire chest, and under belly, and still want to say bi-color.
And no, I won't say any specific dog, because each of us the our dogs, and think they are 'all that's,(as it should be).
