I wonder if this is related to the ablation of the pelvic symphysis to improve potential HD outcome. Even though 6mo is a bit old for that. Spay/neuter would be mandatory with this procedure. On top the pup cant show any evidence of joint disease at the time of the procedure. This was an investigative study circulating several years ago; anyone remember?

Sita'smom...".and then the vet brainwashes them." yeah, as in omniscient and self-appointed overseer of all creatures. It's really all about money and problems created by pediatric spay/neuter just insures future income. After all, vets can't make money off healthy animals. The general public is hammered by BS on tv like: ask your vet for this poison; that crappy feed; have your puppy spayed/neutered; report to authorities any puppy with parvo...it probably came from a puppy mill ( no shit, that is really being advised on a local news channel) and coincidentally in the same breath, public being advised that HSUS offers $5,000 reward for reporting suspected puppy mill which results in seizure of dogs and conviction of owner.......then day after day, the AC that seized the dogs and puppies are getting free advertising on the same local broadcast that they are having an adoption fair in the parking lot of the local pet smart or Walmart for the same supposed maltreated, malnourished dogs/ puppies which were just seized/ stolen the week before without searchwarrent or trial/ conviction of owner....but the AC rakes in hundreds, if not thousands, in profit from illegally seized animals.

Nans, Thank you for the offer, I sent you a copy of the guarantee I use.

Joanro, I also love it that so many vets are still recommending annual vacs even after every vet school in the country advises against that for the average dog. Vets pay under $1.00 for the vac and syringe, so I guess it's not too hard to figure out that vacs are the mainstay of their income.

Who says spay/neutering is mandatory for a dog that has the abalation procedure, Elkoor? I don't recall hearing about that study. If you find a link, please copy it here. Thanks.

Thank you Elkoorr, from my experience with vets and puppies x 3 now it is PennHip .. spay and ablation.

My first was a male puppy who's new owner rang me the minute she arrived home from the vet (thankfully). At this time I had no knowledge of such surgery so I went on to do a fair bit of research.
Next was a female who's owner went ahead with early desexing and PennHip which proved that the puppy had good hips BUT vet said that they should still do the surgery, that was when they rung me.
These 2 puppies were both living in the same local area.
Another was a male I sold at a lesser price as he had only one testicle ... His owners rang me extremely angry because from what the vet said to them they thought that he had HD.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. The vet says - in my opinion this 4 month old dog has a chance of developing HD but I can do surgery on him/her that will prevent that...... and " It is mandatory that ovariohysterectomy or orchidectomy be performed at the same time to eliminate the dog from the gene pool."  No experienced dog person is ever going to drink that Kool Aid........are they?

Note also that the original surgery was done on a guinea pig.

Agreed. Bad part is that the Vets included in this study probably are getting some sort of compensation to sell this procedure to the public by instilling fear and guilt into not so knowledgeable costumers. I would never agree to something like this.
