Archie, do not fret.
Your boy will do well. The operations are major but they do recover quickly. Surprisingly so! The most important thing is follow up with the vets, watch for any sign of infection and the rehab after the operation. The vet will go over everything with you beforehand. If you have any questions or doubts about something, ask them. I speak from experience.

Good luck to you and him and please keep us updated.

That x-ray is remarkably similar to the x-ray taken of one of my dogs. He was 5 months old, his ball joints where more squared off though.

He lived until he was 9 years old, and had a pretty normal life, no operations, just regular swimming to build muscle. They didn't really have the technology back then (20years ago) to do what they can now.

Best of luck with your boy.

Thanks for all your Best of luck comments. Today Archie goes for his operation

If this were my dog I would hold off on the surgery, there is apparently no bone on bone so possibly no pain, and it is very possible he can compensate on his own and live a long life with limited mobility but no pain.  Not much different than the FHO surgery (removing femur heads so there is no bone on bone, the dog develops scar tissue "false joints" and though mobility is limited, there is no pain and the dog can do just fine.

Thinking of your Archie. Today must be awful.
Technology has improved hugely so think positive. We will all want a good result for you.

I'm glad this post was 'bumped' up, as I too was wondering how Archie had got on.
I just wanted to wish you and Archie all the very best for his uneventful recovery and rehab, and would love to hear updates on his progress too.
Good luck for a successful outcome, am thinking of you.  Take care - there's bound to be some "oops" moments now and again over the next difficult few weeks, but I'm keeping everything crossed for you.
Don't forget to take someone with you when you pick him up, so that they can hold him steady on the journey home.
It'll be a long six weeks, but it does pass.  If he's a calm dog, it'll make things so much easier on both of you.
Once again, I send you all best wishes for Archie's recovery.
