Applying pressure to the front of the leg may or may not get you a response depending on whether or not you're in the right spot. Let us know what the vet determines.
Keef makes a good point about Rimadyl; some dogs don't handle it or other NSAIDs well.

I know it well, as I have dealt with it with my dog.
Off pupy food. Adult food only, or raw. Or mix it with raw.
The vet has to take X rays witht he dog, and you will see clearly (big, black splotches around the bones) and that will tellyou 100% of it's pano or not.
the vet is going to push Rymadyl,or whatever it's spelled right of the bat. Do not take it,it'spoision.
Ask for Derramax (not ideal, but better than Rymadyl) and give it to you pup.
Take it easier with your dogfora while, no fast running, or very long walks. Walks with the long leash in the park, for 15, 20minutes, put up and crate.
It should significantly improve within 3 to 4 days and SHOULD be completely gone within 10 days to 2 weeks. Then, you can resume normal activities with your dog, like nothing happened.
X rays will cost you about 80 bucks and Derramax, about 30. If the vet prescribes, say 20 pills, ask for 30 or a double dosage. You don't have to use it all within 2 weeks.
You can keepsome for later, in case the pano shows up again. It could, either on the same leg oron the different leg, it kind of goes back and forth.
Then, if the limping shows up again, and it could, when the dog is say 12 to 13 month, just reach out toyour stash of Derramax that you put away and give it to him.
If pano shows up again lateron (chances are 50 50 that it will), then it's very possible it will be milder than the 1st time, but not always the case.
Anyway, not too much to worry about. X ray is the first bulletproof step to find out what exactly it is.
if it's pano, and I am betting it is, then do as outlined and you will be okay.
Hope that helps and best of luck.

It is sure nice that we can agree on gettinng along ..........!
WE sure have a problem with ED, so raising a pup, thinking it is "only" pano can be devastating at the end. A outmost devastating thing to happen, believe me. Been there, done that.
Even with the most integrety one can have, checking over 200 hundret pedigrees before attemping a breeding, you, as a breeder, are not protected against a bad outcome of the x- rays. And yup, I will replace your pup, or if you wish, I will replace your investment, but if that said dog will not find a suitible home in a certain time frame, his faith is settelt.
Many times, my wife just loves our animals, what are you going to do with these animals ? Me, as a small times breeder, I can not keep these animals, otherwise I would have to stop breeding, in order to do right to the excisting animals. Meaning simply, pts the "excessiv" animals. Now, for me it not that easy - it bugs me all along. But, my true belief is : If a GSD can NOT or his prognosis is , that he wont be able to, move along as a GSD should do, he/she will be pts. I truely believe, they should be able to do what a GSD should be able to.
I know, I place myself a bit outside of the fence, I know, many will say I am heartless, but still, I cry my eyeballs out, when I have to make the trip.
Neverless, will it change that we will encounter things like HD or ED ? No, it wont, but we can, and we should enhance our chances due to our breeding practice. Will it vanish ? No it wont, but maybe we can change to odds to our favor !
Looking forward to your replies......

As a friend of mine says, don't keep your dogs alive just for YOU.
That said, I'll probably drag my dog's life out way too long because I'm a spineless weenie.
