Having Galant grand-progeny in the homes of non-working breeders or as family companions gives Eurosport nothing to build upon.  Thalia is their only appearant avenue for advancing to a third generation of Eurosport dogs.

Daryl,

I understand your point
but

I believe excelling in Shutzhund isnt the end all for all breeders,

I think that more GSD dogs are sold in pet homes then working homes and would rather buy from a breeder that sells balanced dogs with great temperments that still have the aptitude to work but ability to settle nicely in the home.

I look at Galants progeny and im very impressed I guess in time we will see how they produce.

http://www.eurosportk9.com/testimonial1.asp - happy customers....... this should be what's most important.....the list goes on for a very long time, and then there are 7 more pages!

These are just some of the eurosport dogs that I personally know and see working, some I see on the training field, some at seminars, and others at AKC competitions - they are excellent it their own fields..... - Schutzhund, Rally, Obedience, the show ring, french ring or in real jobs like SAR, narcotics, guard dogs, therapy, or just companion/pets - these dogs are sucessful. I'm sure they are out there, but I cannot think of another kennel where I know personally know so many dogs that are being trained and doing well. I know of others that are not on this database that are also doing very well also. dogs like Slicky and Indian - whos owners want noghing to do with this site.............

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/628304.html - narcotics
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/534167.html - Schutzhund
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/553133.html - Schutzhund
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/659687.html - narcotics
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/660510.html - up and coming - extreme drive!
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/635535.html - rally and obedience
http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/635215.html - VP1 - up and coming in conformation

http://www.eurosportk9.com/puppytraining_basic.asp  - Eurosport takes one or two puppies from most litters and places them into the puppy program. These puppies come out confident, and ready for just about anything! The program lasts up to 10 months.  Whether in the program or not, all of their puppies are socialized and trained (age appropriate) until they are purchased and leave for their new homes.

OMG a showline breeding by Eurosport - Zaira is a very tough bitch that can work! Is it bad to try to bring some workng ability back into the show lines....... what a novel thought!....... Zaira x Tyson produced Raina who has beautful drives and is willing to anything she's asked to do - She loves bitework, tracking and obedience, agility and more....... she has a wonderful personality and is beautiful too! Good for Eurosport!

Many larger breeders also sell dogs to homes because they do not want to get stuck and keep wonderfull dog in the kennel until death.
I personally have a band of "old and ugly" and they stay with me in the house. There are 8 of them.  The old and ugly are my faiorite dogs but I can keep only so many of them.  Thus if I can I sell older dogs to good homes or to a hobby breeder who will appreciate a great dog in forever home.

Here is one about old dogs.

many people have what I call , false sentiment ,   hope it translates well

what is better for a dog of middle age , to be one of the so many retired dogs in a  kennel , or to go to a new home where he is the number one dog , king of the mountain , and gets all the attention
only difference for me is that I turned down  higher offers for great dogs , only to accept subtantial lower offers where I was sure the dog went to a home without kennels were he ended up also a therapydog

my last older(6 years)male IPO3 , is now living with a friend and  being trained to be certified for patroldog , he has got some great years ahead of him

but thats for everybody to decide themselves to place or sell the older ones , but keeping them would be the worst choice for the dog

I don't have a clue about euro sport but for some people money doesn't drive the boat...they just love the boat

I think you girls are totally missing my point.  I've not said that anything Eurosport has done is admirable or not, so the defensiveness is unnecessary.  WHAT I AM SAYING, is a third generation "blah blah z Eurosportu" dog doesn't happen unless THEY retain and develop from their own breedings.  And in whatever venue they please, not just schutzhund.  But done through some hand-me-down kennel doesn't quite count.  THAT'S what a breeder of bloodlines does.

by duke1965 on 26 July 2010 - 16:07

daryll , I know breeders of name that ,after 30 years of breeding , still run around with a purchased  dog from another kennel , how many breeders do you know with a four generations , homebred QUALITY  dog , by the way , how far are you , in your breeding program

I never inferred anything negative from this... Top sport dogs do in fact get sold. They could have received a very good monetary offer... What's wrong with that? Or maybe he felt that he accomplished what he could with this dog, and so he wanted another dog to hopefully accomplish more. I too have wondered how people can sell dogs that they achieve something with that they never may again, but then who knows, maybe that "detachment" is what makes them so good.

To me, top dog sporters are like top athletes... Who knows what they think, and they may do many things that we would never do. For example, Helmut Raiser has at least one of his past champions stuffed in his house in his schutzhund trophy room (taxidermy is one of his hobbies)...
