"I have heard stories" is not an acceptable accusation for this board.

If there are personal disputes between buyers and ANY kennel, this board is not the place to resolve them.

TOS # 8. "...This forum is not a venue for the resolution of personal disputes with members or companies."

LOL, good luck with that Yogie, this thread as you refer to it should have been closed from the start

Well unfortunately I came across this post a little too late to see what everyone had to say (most comments have been removed).   That stinks because in June, I bought a puppy from Hans K9 Kennel.

I had always wanted a GSD, and knowing very little about what to look for in a puppy for Schutzhund, I showed up at this breeder's facility to "look" and came home with a puppy (100% my fault, I know). My son had bought a puppy from this man a month and a half prior to this and I had to have one. Buyer beware...you get what you pay for! That should have been my first clue.

Let me start by saying, I LOVE my dog!!!! She is awesome, she is great for me, but if I was an experienced handler/breeder, and had bought her specifically for training purposes, she would have gone right back to the kennel!!!

Katy has had issues since I brought her home. I started taking her to Birmingham for evaluatin and training when she was a few months old. The very first session, the trainer looked at me and said, "I think she has weak nerves, she may not be able to do home protection/Schutzhund...lets watch her and see if she comes along." I am grateful to this man for his honesty, and his willingness to work with me. I was able to really socialize Katy over the next few months and I think this was her saving grace!!!

Katy does have weak nerves but she has come a LONG way. She is not your typical GSD. She has always been skiddish about everything... I spent the first 6 months of her life really socializing her and building her confidence!!! I'm not talking "puppy fear", she was afraid of her own shadow. I thought long and hard about the kennel I bought her at....the dogs were all in 6x12 runs, and the puppies were outside, with their moms in 110 degree heat....they were so HOT...the more I think about it, the more I think Katy was VERY undersocialized when we got her. She stayed outside ALL day, in a run, in last summer's HEAT wave! BTW...my son's dog does have nerves of steel!

Katy also had demedictic mange as a puppy...I know they get it from their mothers...who knows if Katy's was because she couldn't handle stress as a pup, or if her immune system was immature? We will leave it at that. I was told by the breeder that it was "normal". He told me not to take her to the vet, he said he would send me something to clear it up, but I had already carried her to the doctor. Never got any medicine in the mail either!!!!

Katy has come a long way, but it has taken twice as long to get her there. I am a new handler, and she has issues. We are in the beginning phases of Shutzhund training and she is doing good with obedience...we will see what happens....I just want to have fun with my dog, and for her to be happy...

So you admit the dog you bought is "awesome" and you also admit that the breeder offered to buy her back.  Not just take her back, but buy her back.

Glad you bought an awesome dog.

Observations about breeder:
1. All dogs were outside, in the heat, with no cooling system. There was a small area of grass by the Kennell that he brought the puppies to. I don't recall seeing ANY secured fenced areas on the land, but there could have been....maybe? There was a small pond by the house that you see on his website. It is very little, and he told me that the dogs could not swim in it because it had snapping turtles in it, and one of them got a hold of a pup's leg...:(
2. He told me that my puppy was "perfect for Schutzhund training." I had no idea that he wasn't active or experienced in the sport (again, my fault for not asking).
3. He told me that if my pup didn't work out, he would buy her back in 1 year and breed
her. I guess he doesn't mind breeding a dog with a history of mange, who has weak nerves, and who
may not be able to obtain a Schutzhund title...wait a minute...isn't that what the sport was designed for? To determine what dogs are suitable for breeding??? That's ironic.
4. He recently had my dogs puppy picture listed as a pup for sale under a different litter. He has recently changed his page and has a page of previous pups. Her pic is now there.
5. He recently had my pup's Dam for sale, and when I emailed him to find out why he was selling her, he said that he had "just decided to hang onto her" ??????

I could go on and on...(obviously)......the bottom line is that I got a dog that is a good "home companion". I LOVE her and she works for me. I refuse to give up on her!!! Would I buy from this breeder again? NO!!!!!! I always call Katy my "Rescue Dog".....I saved her from her breeder!!!!

Tess,

Yes, I do admit, I have an awesome dog...for me....if I was really into the sport, she would not be a good match....my concern is that he would buy her back and breed a dog that isn't suitable for breeding. Weak nerved dogs should not be bred...Katy is spayed....quality breeding is important....not quantity, but you already know that.......:)

Thanks for the kind words, and yes, I LOVE my dog!!!!!! :)

Goodwink,

I know you and Katy and know that you, indeed, rescued her.  She is very lucky to have an owner that will help her to become the best GSD she can be.  Hopefully your post will help others with their decision.
