Hundmutter, she was barely panting by the end of the run. I guess those darned ASL's do have something good about them - they can cover a lot of ground in one step.  She ended way ahead of the rest of the pack -  workinglines and GSL's, one Mali and 3 rotties, 1 of which didn't make it to the end. That must be why the ASL breeders like all that angulation Thumbs Up. Good to know, isn't it?

Congratualtions!  Beautiful dog!!

Blitzen, those endurance aspects you speak of have far more to do with the physical shape the dogs are in then structure or lungs. I mean SL dogs and pet dogs are not usually know for being in great condition. ( sure you know somebody that conditions there dogs but the vast majority do not).... Also the amount of exertion or gaiting in any show is just a blip to a dog conditioned to working sheep or work all day. That's why real herding dogs that do work all day in valleys and mountain terrain seldom look like dogs in the show ring.
I commend you on your dog's accomplishment sincerely, but trust me the practitioners of work for the breed are very knowledgeable of the structure that has endurance and will not break down with longtime or repeated exertion. And it is not the structure seen in the ring....it does not transfer to real endurance for the most part.

Gustav, I think you are right.  I remember having a conversation
about the time AD was introduced into the UK, with a Club Chairman,
about the fact that one did not seem to see people 'warming up'
their canine athletes or getting in advance practice / conditioning
their dogs much, (unlike human equivalent)  in order to go in for the AD.

From what people say on here, that seems to have improved, on both
sides of the Atlantic;  but we still sometimes get Judges Reports on some
dogs presented to them at Shows which are woefully inadequate in muscle
condition, even when otherwise healthy happy shiny animals.

LOL. well facts are facts - the AKC  CH did better than the WL's and the GSL's, 2 rotties and the mali. Sorry about that, I know that's not the way it's supposed to be, but that's the way it happened. Her sire is a Sch3; does that redeem her in any way Confused Smile?

BTW I was joking when I said that must be why the ASL people like that big side gait.

Hundmutter, I did use Musher's Friend to make sure her pads were toughened, but that's all I did extra. I was already walking and jogging her for 4, 5 miles almost every day and she was in good physical condition when I got her. Her former owner was a runner and she ran for 5  or more miles with her almost every evening.
