GSDPACK

by GSDPACK on 15 April 2012 - 17:04

I have heard good things about her business practices. I don't know what she does or doesn't do with her dogs, never met any of her dogs but my comment is a positive overall encouragement to talk to the breeder and visit her dogs and see what they can do and if that is what you like.

I'll chime in here...
I have *now* 2 females from Kim.....
My oldest female just turned 2 years old, OFA'd Excellent...and is working for her IPO1 title.  IZZY is everything that I could have wanted...and more.
I just purchased the 2 female puppy from her Rookie/Gala litter.....little NOCHE.
She is wonderful!  .....calm, confident and has strong nerves for such a young pup.
She too.....we have high expectations for....

WTA....Last year, a pup from her became a working Police K9 here in the State of Illinois.
So yes....her dogs can & do work.....and they are beautiful, healthy, SOUND specimens of the breed.
Not all GSD actively work or compete in the numerous venues, and there is nothing wrong with breeders or enthusiasts that *choose* not to......most importantly.....is that the dog(s) being bred....ARE CAPABLE...if warranted.

Best Wishes!

Thank you, Robin, for the reminder that not spending every waking weekend moment on a SchH field (most of it with your dog in its crate in the car, lol) is NOT a punishable offense in the eyes of the law;-)

Pharaoh

Since I live only minutes from Kim, I can tell you that there is NO Schutzhund club worth the effort in driving distance.  It is not just the distance in miles, it is the extreme roads that make anything seem like three times the distance.  If you work full time and spend a lot of time training your dogs (she does), there is no time to sleep.  I love where I live, but there is a reason why I got such a beautiful new craftsman style house with a half acre of flat land so cheap.  It is the volcano you have to drive over to get anywhere.  The population is very low and the beauty of the countryside is breathtakingly beautiful.

When I lived in the SF Bay area, I belonged to the Menlo Park Schutzhund Club.  I drove a little over an hour to get there for the pleasure of starting young Pharaoh with Joel Monroe.  Joel was very pleased with Pharaoh.  My previous dog, was trained by Ivan Balabanov when he was in San Francisco.

Unfortunately, someone fell in a parking lot near my car and sued me for $700,000.00.  That meant I could not refinance my house with a potential financial liability that would bankrupt me.  Also, it would complicate sellimg my house.  It doesn't matter that there was no physical contact between the ditsy looser and my car.  It took forever (almost two years) to get resolved in my favor.  During this time I asked my insurance agent if my dogs were covered by my homeowner policy.  She said what kind of dogs, I said German Shepherd.  She said they would be covered just as long as they were not "attack trained".

So, that was it for Pharaoh's short Schutzhund career.  I sold my big beautiful house and moved here to Poverty Paradise right after I was released from the law suit.  With the economy collapsing, it was a very good idea indeed.

Now, I live two hours away from my old house.  Between the extreme drive and the legal fear, that is it for me.

Call me a coward.

Kim's dogs are not just beautiful, they are super smart and high spirited.  She is extremely picky.  She does all the health clearances possible.  She does not produce many puppies.  I was very happy that she would sell one to me.  It is like winning the lottery.

I first met Kim and Rookie in 2010.  I will start by saying that Rookie is just as dark pigmented, large headed and impressive in person as he looks in his photos and he seems to be improving with age.  He is a happy go lucky guy with an appropriatly easy going temperament.  I have not seen him work but I know she has spent some time working him in protection and SchH training when she has the time. Since that time, he has achieved some of the titles mentioned in the posts above. I bred one of my females to Rookie in the spring of 2010 and I can not say enough good things about that litter.  He brought beautiful head structure, nice dark pigment and good even temperament with consistency throughout all 11 puppies in the litter.

We kept a female from the litter, She is a confident and very nicely built girl. She will be 2 next month and we are expecting good hip/elbows on her from the prelims we have seen.

Kim has been a pleasure to work with. She has high health standards for her breeding dogs and if you are looking for a well rounded, confident puppy that can be easily trained for sport or that can be a fantastic active companion dog. She will listen to what you are looking for and pair you with a puppy that will fit right in with your family.

Wow Michelle , I am sorry you went through all that!  I live in Manteca so probably not far from where this happened.

But am glad you were able to get a pup from Kim and hope to one day do the same.
