@troublelinx- The kennel is from TSC and you are absolutely correct- it was inexpensive (maybe $170ish on sale). We only bought it to tide us over while my husband made welded wire panels. However, it seems to be working for us so the panels are on hold for now. I know some people who use the TSC kennels for GSDs but like many things, it depends on the dog. Senta doesn't like to chew metal  but she will destroy rubber stall mats and wooden/synthetic decking (which works just fine for other folks). My husband also wired the kennel together differently than the set-up instuctions so perhaps that may be of help (he grew up on a livestock farm).

My dogs do not go potty in their runs.  It might happen once a month if that.  My dogs are very clean and do not live in their kennels. If I have to be gone for a day or overnight and no one else is home, then I have a friend come over and let them out midday and also come to feed twice a day.  This rarely happens.
I work 10 hours shifts, but my job is 2 miles from home, so again if no one else is home I come home at lunch and let the dogs out.  They are always put away when no one is home.

Gotcha, good for clean dogs not good for us trainers ...damn it anyhow they are so much nicer than concrete..(hangs head and kicks rocks)

For mine no boards, just 3/4 ply that is covered with a roll on roof waterproofing material. Recoat every year. Don't want critters coming up through the cracks. Floor is pitched to the rear. Dogs rarely crap in the kennels and if they do I just hose it down and clean it up off the ground in the rear.  Mine don't smell, and if by chance something gets dried and crusty then I just spray a natural cleaner and scrub a little and hose it down. I have had these kennels a little over two years and not one problem.
