Clee, I took a whole bunch of pictures of the two dogs playing, and several are even cuter and funnier than that. The black dog is a chiweenie (chihuahua x mini daschund) and has insane energy levels. (Okay, it was crated almost all the time, so that likely explains it.)
Here's a stacked shot of my girl: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=523413. You can see how much her pigment resembles that the OP's dog. And she is definitely a B&T. She was nearly all black at birth.
BTW, hope your girl is gaining a little weight now that she's got a good home. That photo show a little too much rib for my liking.

Sunsilver, those shots are soooo funny, thanks for sharing! I think Star is beautiful and I agree with you about her coloring. Toby looks so cute, I bet he's a character!

some dogs just won't keep weight they run it off here is what I would do.
I put her on twice a day and ad that yellow high calorie liquit to the food. I would present her to a Judge (SV) and ask for opinion. Some males pass on a rock solid disposition. The lines or dogs that I know that carried this was from the 60tes. A good dependable working dog does not have to be anatomical less disirable.
