I think it is f'd up that people would consider culling an other wise healthy puppy or litter because of an accidental litter.   I think the bucket comment is even more f'd up than the 22 comment.

Geez, I just don't get people some times.

Here comes the mud slinging, duck!!!

Hold on there guys, I didn't mean for people to be getting annoyed with each other when I asked that question.  I thought that this was a forum for people who loved German Shepherds as much as I do and all I asked for was a simple piece of advice.  I did not expect to encounter a "moron" like buckeye whoever he or she is.

I would like to assure Jackie and the other concerned people who replied, that although this was not a planned mating, it is certainly not an unwanted litter.  I am very much looking forward to the arrival of the puppies and I will absoloutly ensure that each and every one of them will go to a good home.  I love my dogs they are a huge part of my life.

I agree with Molly:

IMO someone who can shoot healthy puppies in the head (or drown them in a bucket) should not be allowed to own a gun or an animal. and ps - in this state and others, either would be illegal and felony animal abuse.

Seriously, what makes a showline x workingline litter so damaged that it needs to be culled? They'll be healthy GSDs.  It's not like it's a cross between a GSD and a gremlin.  I own a showline/workingline cross and he is awesome.  He certainly isn't "damaged goods."  There are plenty of people who would want one of these puppies, I am sure.

Good for you.  They just might turn out to be great dogs and great examples of the breed.   Papers don't make a dog.  As for colour, they will probably be very nice blanket backs.  I for one, love the dark ones.  All the best with your puppies.

we disagree on the particulars,oh well
i didnt say i would find pleasure in culling a litter
just wouldnt want a litter i wasnt totally prepared for!!!
and prepared to keep 10 dogs if for some strange reason nobody wanted them.

sorry for your misunderstanding
but it has nothing to do with the cross of lines
i could care less about that
just didnt want a litter that was not wanted
being born because of soft heartedness

to the op
good luck and do right by them

i still think they would be better dead
than abandoned or abused so hopefully
for the dogs they get good  homes

Perhaps it's better to save the dogs that are suffering now than the ones not old enough to have suffered yet.  One free puppy is just another reason to overlook dogs that are already in desperate need, like that aged dog on doggie deathrow that needs a home because it's owner has kicked the bucket first.

No,it would be a misdemeanor in PA: http://www.animallaw.info/statutes/stuspa18pacsa_5511.htm.

Your opinion, Ms. Breed Wardeness, and this law are both inane.

Re the law: Why can a citizen kill their own cow, sheep, goat, chicken, iguana, gerbil, etc., but not their own dog or cat?  I don't want the state making that differentiation and determination for me. They are all animals are they not?

Re your opinion: Culling via killing is an efficient means of controlling a gene pool and given your position one that should be presented as an option to a breeder of an accidental litter. And shooting or drowning are no more stressful than subjecting them to a veterinarian's needle.
