Rik, well without answearing then getting an earful from other members. Just look around. Its clear alot of breeders have their own ideas. Some like the look, i said in another blog but those who are 100% against that look would proberly never use one of those studs and some proberly wouldnt even stud their dog to one. Then there are those who breed dogs similar to the one i seem to like and some of them breeders think the same when it comes to the dogs that are bred strictly to do the job(s) they were created to do.

Am not saying the breed will seperate in five years time but in a good few years there are going to be major differences in the "breed" A few of you have stated in other posts that some breeders breed GSD's that dont even look like gsd's. Not that them breeders are wrong but they just have different views on where they wanna see the breed go.

I actually like most examples of the breed. I love the look of Pragers on his site and i think i told him that but i also love the look of another breeders which are comepletly different.

The dogs Prager uploaded are a different styles of GSD but all have that Cliché gsd look.

I think when i created this post it was aimed mainly at all the hostility that the breeders had towards each other instead of working together

hello Geo, first I feel that you have misunderstood what people are talking about when speaking of "separation" of the breed.

It is, generally, along the lines of competition that is being refereed to. Not the sub culture of breeders who have found a market for their off color or "mutant" gene or "over size old time GSD".

Very broadly "separation" refers to the split that has occurred between show dogs and sport/working dogs. And is now occurring further into sport and true working dogs.

These are, of course, my opinions and very broad and general in nature. Hopefully others will fill in some of the blanks.

Best,
Rik

.... As we all know there seems to be a huge diversity in the showline and workingline GSDs......However, they both came from the foundation that was developed by Von Steph......Breeders have separated the breed as we've come to recognize it today as two totally different purposes to the point it could be classified as two separate breeds...... One to look pretty and move gracefully, and the other the be that serious working dog........Its to the point now, that when you see a blk/red saddle GSD, that dog is automatically labeled as having showline pedigree and the purpose is to be shown.....Any other color is considered to be a working line pedigree......What a terrible way to label or draw a conclusion as to the dog's ability......

In this sense, the breed has become separated.....This post is made in a very "In general" statement.....Its not meant to create a battle field to put to sides at war......Wouldn't it be awesome to have one great GSD that can live in both worlds?......I do believe that by working together that is possible......However, with the state of mind that it is a taboo to combine showline and workingline pedigrees, that may never be happen...I am not talking about combining the two just for color reasons......In that sense,of workingline and showline, the breed is divided into two....What a waste of our wonderful breed.......JMO
