Well Steve, if I took her home to look at. I'm sure you'd be not far behind to kick my butt.

Steve she is the exception to my light rule. I like when they have that, what I call Czech look. Her markings look Husky like. She is not sable all over but has the markings of a GSD, the tan under face, stripe on shoulder and again before her legs. Does she have a fluffy tan skirt in the back too? How about under her belly and up in front of her back legs?

I think the lighter color makes me want to say "cute" as appossed to beautiful. The darker dogs just seem by looks, more formidable and less jovial. Your girl looks sweet not scary.

Sables change color, they lighten, darken, back & forth, until around 3 years old.  Steve's bitch probably  isn't "done" yet and if I recall correctly,  she is 100% Belgian and West German lines. All sables have tan/red/grey markings, it's merely a question of how much black overlay there is as to whether or not you see the lighter color.  My male is a dark sable, but as you can see from his picture in my signature, when he was 14 months old he was going through a light phase, sort of lavenderish looking!

I will say I LOVE the dark sables and 2nd is a "true" Bi-color but color is last in my book, temperment, health and yes work ethic since I do Schutzhund is what I believe to be most important. When I was looking for my female I wanted a sable because of the color but when I was told about the litter my pup is from I had a choice between a black and him because they were very similar in temperment, I choose Kai because I love the sable but if the black was a much better pup I would have taken him.

Here is my boy at 5mo old.
