"I am sure they will they will only let Ozzy go to a great home, as they are great people...who love thier dogs! "

I am sure Joseph will let Ozzy go to whom ever is willing to pay him the $22.5K, great people or not!

by Sam Spade on 25 July 2010 - 14:07

Yeah because most people with $22.5 are going to tie him out behind their trailer and let him go to waste.

I have written this somewhere else. Thus I just copy it and modify it so it is pertinent to this thread.

There are 4 kinds of breeders by type: A) Back yard breeder Breeds anything to anything without any knowledge or consideration of bloodlines, types, problems, qualities,....and so on. Does it with love but does a lot of emage to the breed.
                                                                     B) Puppy mill breeder. Breeds anything to anything without any knowledge or consideration of bloodlines, types, problems, qualities,....and so on. Does it without love of the dogs and does it JUST for the money.
                                                                      C) Commercial breeder. Good commercial breeder will select or get someone to select for him quality breeding pair of strong genetics which matches properly in dove tail style. ( Compensates problems on Sire side with virtues on Dam side and vice versa.) He / She then breed these 2 dogs for profit and consequentially providing quality dogs to public and is spreading good genes into genetic pool. There is nothing wrong with this type of the breeder even so they often catch grief that they do it "just" for money. I'd say to that that we all need to make money and I do not think that there are breeders doing it "just" for money unless they are puppy mills. But here I am talking about GOOD breeders.
                                                                      D) Blood line breeder. Blood line breeder is a breeder who is concerned with developing and advancing certain bloodline. Once I was asked which of our studs we would like to have in olden days as a top working dogs. I talked to Jiri about it and we agreed that all our studs would surpass the dogs in "old days". AlpineK9 and JINOPO are now preserving the traits of these olden days dogs, but we are also trying to make them more consistent, reliable, genetically stronger, sturdier and trying to eliminate genetic problems and so on while preserving the original qalities of the old dogs which we loved back then and still love them now.

.
i)There are amateurs Bloodline breeders
ii)and then there are commercial Blood line breeders. I am and Eurosport is commercial bloodline breeder. What does it mean. We love what we do so much that we have turned our hobby into full time business. Most of such kennels arfe not getting rich on it (Believe me) but we still need to make enough money to support our "bad habit" of breeding dogs. That is why we and Eurosport sells such dogs as Ozzi.

To consider Eurosport a "bloodline" breeder seems a bit borderline.  They have only just recently produced their first 2nd-generation-Eurosport dogs (i.e., Thaila), rarely ever holding back from their own production, and were all over the table in terms of consistency.  IMO, they are first and foremost brokers of dogs (and non-Eurosport litters), and that's not at all meant as an insult.

Italo zet Eurosportu SVV2, IPO1
Drago z Eurosportu SVV3 (Dragon)
Ingrid zet Eurosportu SVV2
SG Thalia z Eurosportu SVV2
V1, CAC Cayla z Eurosportu SVV1
Raina z Eurosportu

these are the breeding stock they have held back........at least the ones that are on their web page, there are also co-ownerships that are not on their site...........

Yes, and they are all 1st generation of the Eurosport name, except Thalia.  IOW, not a development of a bloodline.  One of your mentioned dogs has C-hips (a3) and not produced, another spayed and retired (at an early age), another is a showline dog (WTF?).  Tell me if you know, why wouldn't they keep anything out of Ozzy out of their last twenty or so breedings with him?  They've had an Ozzy pup on their "for sale" page that's something like eight months old now!

Prager, good post on types of breeders and I think it covers it very well. What many on here seem unwilling to accept is that 99.9% of breedings have a financial consideration to them. Doesn't matter if it's the back yard breeder selling pups for $100 or the top breeders selling them for $2500.

Money is what drives the boat. The difference is that the good breeders try and produce dogs that excel in their chosen venue, whether it is sport, work or show.

"The difference is that the good breeders try and produce dogs that excel in their chosen venue, whether it is sport, work or show."

And that's the precise reason I sold Darina z Eurosportu who didn't excel in schutzhund, or produce pups that would.  I can tell you that "financially", it would have been to my benefit to keep her, but for me it's not always about money.  That we sold her (and others) seems to have upset Taunya, that she wouldn't respond to my wife's inquiries about a particular litter from Eicke.  In turn, Taunya herself has sold Darina's sister Demi, Thalia's mother, and my guess being Thalia is likely a much better dog for sport, though I'm sure Demi has a lot to offer the right breeder.

I've instead encouraged my wife to look to a bloodline breeder for her next prospect, commercial or ametuer makes no difference.
