Glad to hear she is back home. My girl, Kira had a closed Pyo in 2011 and her uterus was so grossly enlarged with pus, it was squashing all her other organs. She sailed through the op apparently, after having numerous tests done in the cardiology dept first as she had something called RBBB in her heart. She was operated on the Monday, late afternoon and I was told by the hospital she came through fine and she'd be ready to come home on the Friday. Tuesday morning when I rang to see how she was, I was told she was eating and doing fine & to come and collect her after lunch. She was great for the first week at home but started to go off her food and be a little bit lethargic, but a course of antibiotics and a steroid she was fine again. Absolutely full of it, you wouldn't think she'd had a major op.
This RBBB was the reason why she wasn't spayed, we had taken her to the vets when she was 4 years old and he had prepped her and started to give anaesthetic when she started to shut down, so the op was aborted. I was overly alert after every season for signs of Pyo so luckily recognised symptoms early even though it was a closed Pyo when she got it.
Hugs to Lil' Bit and get better soon.

Wow, so glad Kira did so well! I try to be alert to changes in my dogs baselines, but Lil' Bit is so feisty that she was lively, happy, & active despite having a 12 pound pus filled uterus! And while she was a little zonked yesterday, she is very energetic & ready to rumble with her sister Ansgar or her friend Beckett today. We did put a cone on her today, that's not slowing her down either. Her uterus was so large that the vet had to enlarge her incision twice during the surgery, so I am really trying to keep her down so she can heal today. What a challenge!
Thank you for your well wishes!

Jackie Glad to hear she is doing great. Do NOT beat yourself up repro organs are not a disease and are vital to a dogs health. Also as my very good vet tells his clients it is a fact intact dogs live longer. So with attentive good owners like you his recommendation is not to spay because he knows we will catch something off. Good thoughts for a quick easy recovery & give her a kiss on the head from all of us.

Pyometra is terrible. I went through this with my dog I had purchased for a show dog but in the end we spayed her. We almost lost her. She us now 8 and the best dog ever. Hope all is well. It happens nothing that you did wrong.
