Its amazing how many so called expert, professional and experienced trainers/handlers/ and owners can't read the simple body language of their own dogs much less of ones they don't know.  Just like when one person scratches his arm. It could mean it itches for that one person, but the next person it could be a sign of nervousness, so is the same for animals.  So not all body language might mean the same. But that is where RESPECT for an animal should become obvious.  JMO

Guddu, I saw the tail as well, it was just lowered - not tucked. But I think its not so because of poor temperament, more so because that poor guy was so confused about the situation. Accepting the rediculous petting or seing the reporter as an agressor. I believe as the reporter took his head in both hands and moved even closer into the already thight space, he had to react as trained or out of instinct. With poor temperament he probably would have bitten the cop as well as he was pushing his head away, basically continue a "blind" biting untill enough refief of stress was achieved. I think the dog is actual very clear in the head.

I only watched about 30 seconds, and didn't even want to watch what else was gonna happen, cos it was inevitable. Poor dog!

Watching the very beginning it seemed obvious that the cop
handler did not know that dog very well, himself.  So he was
giving the dog the wrong signals to start with (how is that being
alpha over the dog ?)  Then to be so lax in reading the body
language of both the dog and the reporter and not stop what
was happening was pretty pathetic;  but we have to recognise
that we have the benefit of slo-mo photography, I'm sure this
all felt more 'sudden' to the participants than it does for us
watching it back.   Agree with others who've said it was more a
"get outta my face" than a savage attack bite,  or the reporter
would have lost half his face at that angle.

Hundmutter, that is exactly what I meant when I said it was amazing how some trainers/handlers and etc really don't know how to read a dog.  Had that Officer/hanlder known how to read a dog, that dog NEVER would have been put in that situation, The dog shows he was uncomfortable with it from the very beginning. But some people will do anything for that little moment of fame they MIGHT get in the spotlight.  In the end, who gets the momment of fame and at the same time the bad rap.  Now the poor dog is being labeled as being a nerve bag, when in reality, he is probably a very sound dog. Its the handler that is really lacking in knowledge, in my opinion..

Bad handling. He should have not let the reporter that close. Give the dog a little room. The dog told them both he was too close.

Yes, we all agree.
Anyone can see it coming.
So should have had the handler.
