Would I use those to research Ufo?

by workingdogz on 05 January 2012 - 01:01

You wouldn't
Those are just both registering bodies, kind of like AKC and UKC.

You may want to contact this lady, she has an Ufo daughter; http://germanshepherdk9.com/Page.html
Just google the dogs name. I believe Jon Gjerpe had frozen semen stored from Ufo, but not sure if he is still around or not.
I think his company was Canine Biotech? You can look up progeny of Ufo on the database then google those dogs names as well, find owners, email them etc.

Hope that helps.

Was gonna say the same as WD. Talk to people that have first hand knowledge.

by workingdogz on 05 January 2012 - 01:01

Good luck in your search WW, it's fun to learn about dogs behind your dog. Most people are willing to talk about thier dogs, so should not be hard to get info.
I know the owner of your pup's sire is a very nice guy! He will likely tell you all want to know and then some

I don't think Bill is as "touchy feely" about his dogs, but I bet his wife Jennifer is
I could be wrong, Bill may have mellowed over the years, but he has always had respect for a good strong dog, and would never breed to a "punk"

If you want to be completely correct, Cayos is a Norwegian dog, with his father (Ufo) a Belgian working line dog and his dam (Chila) a West German Working line dog.

Jon Gjerpe is still around and has actually moved to Texas. I know because he just bred a bitch to Cayos last month.

Thank you for the advice everyone,

I get all the info I need from Cayos' owner about him, he is very helpful and knows so much. Bill and Jen have told me a lot about Hilde, as well. I am more interesting at this point in learning about the dogs further back... Justin, Natan, Gerry, Rick, Greif, Link, etc... I am trying to look up names and videos and such... I'd like to hear it if anyone recognizes dogs in later generations and what they were known for. I am looking up names as we speak, trying to understand this art of pedigree reading.

Thank you all very much for your imput - very helpful when I am knew to all of this.

Natan Pachecos Haus was a KNPV titled dog (google that to find out what KNPV is ), he was PH1 titled, Politiehond 1.
He was a little "dicey" for hip production if memory serves me correct, but seemed to have a decent enough average overall.
That was of course, "back in the day" before elbows were done, but somehow I don't think a dog would be able to walk let alone trial for a PH1 title if it had bad elbows .  He was known to bring an "edge" to his progeny.

Justin Pendel Bach was heard to be a pretty "serious" dog as well, and seeing Mink h Wittfield and Falko h Sindern would tend to make me think that was pretty accurate.

Randy Tyson-Wittmer could tell you about Mink, she owned him for a good while.

Asko Joufne Keyleff went back to some good old dogs too. You may want to track down JC Balu in California, he had a full brother to Sagus Buesecker Schloss, "Sanuk". AJ Singh could tell you about Sanuk, I believe he bred to the dog.

Oldo z Starken Eiche, (or perhaps it was his brother Olf) once hit a helper so hard he broke his arm. That was what was told by an SV Judge at least.

Harro Lechrainstadt was a pretty balanced dog, his son Fado was known to bring alot of "play" or willingness to work more for the handler, I am betting that came through Afra.

Thats all my old brain can come up with for now, and hey, take it with a grain of salt too

Wow, such fantastic information!! Thank you SO much for all that, it is amazing to hear about the old generations dogs!

My pup is very playful and has that willingness to work you mentioned, definitely. ;)

You are welcome, others may offer differing opinions, that's just our experiences based on what we have been told by others that have had their hands on the dogs, Our own experiences with sons or daughters of these dogs, or friends experiences with those lines. Keep asking, others can add as well-it's the only way to learn :)
