Kaffirdog

by Kaffirdog on 03 October 2011 - 16:10

He's a lovely looking dog overall, but not really special enough to be likely to be a sought after stud.  Why not look at known studs with a successful progeny record in whatever field you are interested in,  it will help place your puppies if the sire is well known, the owner should be knowledgeable enough to confirm the compatabilty of the bloodlines and might even have people waiting for puppies from such a dog.  It is just as expensive to rear an average litter as a good one, so why not go for the best available.

I like the looks of him Shtal, I've seen people on here breed to much worse.
Where's Ibrahim, for a critique?

Hmph, that is weird!  It is a showline, and though there  are froggy ones, this one isn't IMHO

If I was looking for a puppy to buy for work/show/ or anything else I wanted to do; in my opinion, he would not be anything I would want a puppy out of.  Yes he is "pretty", that I will give to him.  However, his conformation is not good enough for me to want one of his puppies not even if the bitch could carry ALL of the structure and had all health clearances possible.

I agree with Margaret why not go for a dog that is completely proven stud dog,ALL health clearances possible that has showing/working puppies on the ground with proven hip/health clearances, a well known and used stud dog;  could be working/show lines;  a dog that someone would WANT and cherish a puppy from.  That is my opinion.  Go for the best you can possibly find;  breed only the best to the best.  Best of luck  Nan

LOL!!  um no!

Nan, yes, I agree, however, lately with what so called professional breeders have been selling non suspecting buyers on here, your definition of the best, and mine could be polar opposites, not too mention, we haven't seen Shtal's female either, and I'm sure none of us would agree wether or not she is worth breeding.

This breeding business is a big joke for the most part IMO.

by Nans gsd on 03 October 2011 - 17:10

Well Red quite possibly the breeding business is a joke, but why contribute to that.  Don't you want this breed to improve?  I sure do.  Well you don't get that improvement by putting mediocre puppies on the ground just to breed your bitch to a fair dog.  JUst does not happen that way;  wished it was different but even breeding the best to the best you are going to get some just OK/fair puppies;  why would you want to put that out there.  If you can't improve the breed why breed at all?  Let's face it those dogs are out there by the thousands.  I am looking for waaaaay better than that when I go to buy a puppy.  Great days everyone,  Nan

I think the majority of breeders and those who breed occasionally are doing it for various reasons non of which is improving the breed but most of those claim they're doing it to improve the breed, it sounds bizarre to me. Dog breeding as any other animal breeding is mostly a business, few are those who are truly doing it as a hobby or to improve the breed.

Me and some of my friends are thinking of and planning to breed show and work GSDs here in Jordan, our reasons for breeding do not include improving the breed (hopefully we do not worsen it much), we want to make available pure bred GSDs at affordable price here as 99% of GSD lovers here can not afford importing one and we currently have no GSD kennel.

I'm sure you will do a great job Ibrahim, it is clear you seriously wanted to learn from the start and, more importantly, that you are learning, developing and using the knowledge, not just parrotting stuff you read, I'm sure the GSD will be in good hands in Jordan with you at the helm.
