"shame his suicide bid was unsuccessful"

Shame on you for making such a comment, no excuse for the mans actions, would seem his department has to shoulder some responsibility as well.

Wishing that this particular persons suicide attempt was successful is wrong any way you look at it.

ok but the death of he dogs led him to suicide attempt? i know many many pet owners including family members including myself who have depression/ocd and have never forgotten anything that would put my pets life in danger it makes you more of a spook and u worry about your pets more if anything, you freak out more easily and check on them more often and fear the worst i cant see how in gods name ocd could make u forget ?

depression if the depression was that bad shouldnt he take leave?

The suicide cause the dogs was dramatic sound like lots of personal problems i cant believe they dont just give him a pension let him work out his problems with a shrink get himself back together and maybe come back or something a few things are going on it looks like, he jumped out of a car and then hide himself when they found him he had slit his wrists that is not someone that should be a police officer isit? sound like a danger to the public, hopefully he can get better.

i still feel that this man should never be allowed to own a dog because of this nothing more becides a good fireing. but honestly if he was trying to commit suicide after this it makes me think this man should never have bin on the PD let alone a k9 handler. im sorry but a k9 is your PARTNER you dont leave your PARTNER behind or to die in a car. o well i had to sit on the shitter and it took too long No excuse can make up for it. there was absolutely no reason for these k9s to have died in a car im sorry. thats neglagence on the PD's part and the handler and everyone at this training for not noticeing.

at my schutzhund meetings if im standing outside my car and i get hot ill roll up the windows and Ac the car. i will not let my dogs get heat stroke. i also have battery operated fans.

I heard that two people at the centre smashed the windows to get the dogs out, but they were too late.

Call me a cynic, but the policeman that killed a dog last year the very same way was  'suddenly'  suffering with depression blah blah blah.
If he had OCD, he would never, ever have had this happen - quite the reverse.

He's trying to gain sympathy to get away with what he's done as lightly as possible, and not lose his job. Same as the bloke last year, who didn't lose his job.

I understand that his wife too is a K9 handler, if he was my husband I'd kill him myself.

exactly how can the judge society or whatever bought the ocd crap be so stupid and see ocd as a reason? someone with ocd would check on their dog in a car every half a second

having ocd means checking over and over and over way to much it will make u worry about something that is a lil stressful like your cat didnt come home before dark and u will keep checking all night every half hour till morning.  That is what real ocd does to someone.  Pets are usually much safer in the hands of an ocd person cause of their high anxiety/worry.

As I stated on a previous  thread about 2 GSD's that also died in a Police car, there are rules for the Police and rules for everyone else.
This drivel about being depressed is a very lame and completely unacceptable excuse.
No doubt when the media interest dies down he will be shifted to a cushy desk job or pensioned off on a full pension as if nothing has happened.
No doubt the previous perpetrator is living a similar lifestyle.

No excuse for that when K9 Heat Alarm Pro and other such devices will remotely alert the handler when the a/c is/or the battery is about to fail.

he HA-2510, K9 HEAT ALARM® Pro, is a temperature monitoring system for use in a canine vehicle. The unit monitors vital components including temperature sensors, vehicle battery voltage, and engine stall. The information is shown on a 32-character backlit alphanumeric display. If an alarm condition is detected the unit will activate a S.O.S. Horn Honk signal, siren and light-bar activation and dual window drop. Software based features allow for future upgrades.

There is a remote pager that comes with if ordered

I don't know what 'alarm' system if any our K9 units in the UK have, but will now check, and send the dog centre concerned the information you have sent. This is just happening way too often in the UK.

However, I believe in this instance the dogs were in his private car, not a policy dog vehicle.
