I have showlines so not what OP is looking for.  I do not require the dog to come back to me. Neither the clients vet nor one of mine makes the decision OFA does OFA is the authority on hips & elbows and makes the decision.
The client has vested their heart in the dog why tear it away from the home where it is loved.

Best of luck finding your pup when you’re ready.

We would never take a dog (who is already loved & cared for) from his/her family.
*Proof from the SV or OFA is all we would need....and a replacement would be offered.*

Thank you everyone for your help.  I've got a few good kennels for her to look at now. :)

Isn't it a bit sleazy of a breeder to require the return of the dog for a replacement pup?  Seems like a good way to never have to replace a defective pup.

Yup. My sentiments, exactly.

Provided the owner fixes the dog and provides proof of the defect, I don't get why the breeder would want it back unless the owner didn't want it anymore.  Taking it back to rehome it when it's in a good home that wants it and will take care of any special needs seems pointless and taking it back just to euthanize it is wrong.  Just my own personal opinion on the subject.

I agree. Just give me the papers back, and here's your new puppy, if you want it. If not, I will give a partial refund instead. Some people are not in a position to accept another dog, and I don't think it's fair that if they're not, that they don't get anything.
