Thank you everybody!!!

Wow!!!!! So how do you make a WL gal do a back flip of her new SL dog...? Tell her he has some old throwback WL in his blood.... LOL

But seriously I'm very happy with all of the new information I have learned. I already really like his temperament and we are continuing to bond. We worked him in protection this afternoon and can't complain. He is rather overweight at the moment and not very fast but the first is being remedied and might have an influence on the latter (granted he has been a pampered house pet for the last 3 years). Too much snow to test tracking and he has great manners but have not done any "formal" obedience yet but likes to play fetch.

As far as what our plans are - I think I might have fun running the big guy around the ring a time or two and maybe "renew" his breed survey to learn more about him from a judge over here (USA), if he's not too old. I would not be opposed to studding him out from time to time - And *GASP* (hope everyone is sitting down) I'm entertaining the possibility of using him on one of my WL girls..... Yester will be 7 years old on March 25th, if I get him back in condition might just be playing in the veterans class.... Hmmmm deep in the heart of Texas......

Thank you thank you thank you Hexe yes you are too modest in regards to your knowledge - I would LOVE to learn the acupressure technique for bloat not just because of his lines but for life in general.
Where/how can I do that....?
What do you mean tube a dog...? I know tube feeding puppies but I don't think you mean it in that context... more info on that too please!

He is a cool dog - I was not planning on adding another male to our pack but I'm a believer that sometimes, certain people and/or dogs just come in to your life whether you are expecting it or not and I'm grateful to have him as a part of our family.

Here's a link to the info on the acupuncture/acupressure point used to stimulate peristaltic action as an aid to relieving gas accumulation in the stomach and hopefully preventing a torsion situation:

www.iwane.org/acp_point_v2.htm

I can attest to the efficacy of stimulation of the point in arresting a bloating in progress; my 16 year old girl has a bad habit of gulping snow, and takes in a great deal of air for each scant mouthful of snow she manages to scoop up...this has led to several instances this winter wherein her ribcage was distended and tight as a tick, and her abdomen proper was rigid and tender.  The first such instance, I stimulated the pressure point, but rather than wait to see results I also phoned my vet and told him we were on our way.  By the time we got to the clinic--less than ten minutes time--my old girl had belched and farted herself back to normal, and we'd gotten the vet out of bed at 2 AM for nothing (save the emergency call fee and the x-rays we did just to be on the safe side).  From that point on, I give the acupressure point stimulation a chance to get things moving in the GI tract as soon as I notice any expansion in the old girl's ribcage and abdominal area, and have found it to produce the desired results within ten minutes or less--you can actually hear the gut sounds kick in after just a minute or two of massaging the pressure point, and the expulsion of gas follows soon after.

WRT 'tubing' a dog that's bloating, it's similar to tube-feeding pups in that you pass a plastic tube down the dog's throat and down to the opening of the stomach; the idea is to give the gas an outlet via the tubing and so decompress the stomach before it flips and torsion occurs.  Older editions of "The Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" contained an excellent description of how to pass a stomach tube, but the newer editions appear to have eliminated that info.  Here are some links which include detailed instructions on how to do it, though, along with what items should be in a 'bloat kit':

@AandA. It is just my opinion, but I thought Arex to be one of the best GSD I saw in Germany.

Now if you look at his progeny, he seems to be producing himself. This is what I consider to be one of the best GSD i have ever seen. And I give a s**t less about color.

but that is just an opinion from
