Hans,

Yes I agree.  I see that you do have to ask around for sure   Also with breeding dogs being sold, you know some of those breeders won't say/ have no clue what negative traits that dog may have.  They may use it only for breeding and may not even work the dog as much just b/c they want to get as many litters as they can from it.  They try and live off of the reputation of the dog that the first or even second breeder made with all of the time they put in. At what age do you say that a dog is too old to be used in a breeding program?

I now see it isn't really productive to ask someone about a pedigree unless you know the dogs first by seeing it in action or have talked extensively with the breeder they were with who actually put the time and work into the dog..  For many it is counter productive to say something negative about a dog b/c they don't want to lose out on a potential sale and rather live off the name of the dog.

Male can be bred as long as he is healthy and can produce. Female 7 maybe 8 years. It depends on the shape she is in  and on experience with previous litters. If it is her first litter I would not breed past 7 years. There may be exception. These are just general terms.
If i breed for advancement of the blood line I personally am trying to have all the  breeding done before 6 years of age.
