I think that some really good suggestions have been made, such as the use of "real names". One problem with that idea is it still does not guarantee that person is who they say they are. Also, it opens up the honest board members to possible harassment, stalking, or worse. The underlying problem is that there is no way to hold accountable those individuals in most chat rooms that cross-the-line or engage in despicable behavior.

I train with several police officers, and just this past weekend we were discussing the growing usage and importance of criminal background reports. Taking into consideration the exponential growth of the Internet, those officers that have children were talking about how dangerous a place the Internet has become.

I had to laugh when I read the link to the background report on one of the above posts, because I thought how ironic for a convicted thief and stalker to be the moderator of a dog forum. That speaks volumes for the credibility of the web site and the integrity of the moderator.

I like Liberty, If you put yourselves behind an  anonymous "handle"  then your posts will not have
as much weight as if you are not anonymous.
I am totally not anonymous. I post my www on just about any post and there is phone number and and so on. People are then accusing me that I doing it strictly for commercial purposes. But I am not . I am an open book here. Have nothing to hide and will tell anybody in their eyes what I am telling here.
On the other hand there are LEO and other people who do not feel comfortable to reveal their identity. That is cool too. I like this website because it is not moderated too much. I just believe in liberty and freedom of speech and only limited control.
But that is just me.

This site is good for pedigrees and occasionally (rarely) there is some good dog or training related info shared.  This site was a whole lot better a while back.   There are better forums than this one depending what you are interested in.  There is no moderation here which allows the trolls to run rampant.  Many of the knowledgeable posters have left and I see little value in posting on most threads here any longer.

Try this site:  http://www.germanshepherds.com/forum

At least it has some moderation, people talk about dogs and it is civil.

FWIW,

I like my freedom of speech too, but I believe that a small amount of moderation is always needed. With that said, you need a moderator with integrity... Not say, a convicted thief.

Hey All!

This is my second post here at PDB.  I've been reading through the archived material for a while.  There is a lot of good information here if someone is willing to take the time to dig it out.  I've done a little information mining her and have a lot more hunting to do...There are some very knowledgable people here that are willing to share there knowledge and experience with others.  Truly a marvelous thing and not to be taken for granted.  Yes, there are some less than desirable consequences to this form of communication and I agree that folks who use their real names may be a little more thoughtful in what they write.  I had started the practice myself quite some time back because I didn't feel comfortable having a 'screen name' and wanted to be known for who and what I actually am.  You know, a real person with a real name.  Plus it's easier to remember!

I absolutely agree with Prager in that using a real name provides more weight to your posts... That is always why I have used my real name. I do think that if people conduct themselves with civility and voice their opinions in earnest, then there is nothing wrong with anonymous screen names. And for what it is worth, Prager, I never found the listing of your web site to be "cheap" or self-glorifying. As a matter of fact, I feel that it only lends credibility to your postings which I find to be extremely informative.

Incidentally, some people told me that the link to the Washington State court database did not work, but I double checked it, and it appears to be correct. I will retype it again anyway just to be sure:

http://dw.courts.wa.gov/?fa=home.namesearchTerms          Just enter the name Gary Fujioka at the name prompts and it should most definitely work.

Regards,

Bill

The  only alternative to the pedigrees available ( and perhaps more accurate) is to purchase the computer program from Yvonne.

by Bark and Hold on 10 June 2010 - 20:06

I found both of your links to work, Bill. I suspect that a few people just cut and pasted without complete accuracy. I do think that your first link was as easier read:

http://leerburg.com/GaryFujioka.htm

The Washington state link requires a lot of patience and maybe a bowl of popcorn... My eyes started to roll in the back of my head from sifting through it.
