After years of changing vets trying to find a solution, all kinds of tests (scaping, changing food, supplements, thyroid) it was a simple as running an air purifier. Over 8 years, we've spent thousands on vet bills looking to ease the itching torment 3 of the dogs experienced--a good purifier will cost around $400.

Not all dogs with A.I.D. are lethargic, my dog who had this was enegetic, ravenous (when raw fed ate 4lb+ meat a day), always wanting to do something.
Again re protein it isnt always the % of protein levels it is the source that is the problem
also be aware that testing for sarcoptic mites can give false positives (blood)

He was just wormed a month ago.
You've given me other areas to look into also. Much appreciated!

I'd be really tempted to get the dogs onto something like fish and rice... take chicken out of their diet totally and see if it makes a difference.
An allergic reaction can start on one food and then manifest itself again on the next if the base ingrediants are still basically the same.
I'd go down to 18% protein myself and take the food down to something you've never fed before.

Hi, I'm glad this was brought up again, as I went through quite a few different dog foods with no change in the itching.
Although I saw no sign of fleas or other parasites, I treated them both with Revolution and it seemed to have stopped the itching!

I also did switch dog foods, so I'm still guessing which thing worked.
Unless I had two problems going at once. Anyway, after the Revolution (about 2 weeks) there was a definite improvement in both dogs.
