My dog has more self control when it is on.
I feel confident in his training not being dependent on the collar.
So which is it?
Collar dependency is a sign of poor training and or poorly addressing a specific issue. Even if you are using an ecollar for strictly compulsion to break a particular habit there is collar conditioning that needs to take place to keep the dependency from happening. Or you end up using a dummy collar that most likely the dog will realize at some point anyhow. So maybe you should consult another trainer on the proper use of an ecollar to have a sound dog collar on or off!
Good luck with your dog, and I hope you continue to work towards higher level titles.

Hi Wanda They actually didn't even make dummy collars for awhile and I don't think are a big seller now, They were really more needed when the collars were bigger and blantantly obvious by virtue of the weight . Most people do not use them. But Dogtra has these plastic contact points they made, they would probably send you some gratis obviously they render the collar useless except for the pager but a quick bump on the pager will still let him know you can ''touch'' him at a distance or you can replace the contact points with acorn nuts for the same effect

Thanks Lief. I found the website and decided to just replace the points with plastic, like you suggested. A friend who has been training since forever suggested the dummy collar, but my dealer swore they didn't exist. My decision to ask the forum has been for the most part very helpful and positive.
