How much do you pay for dog food?

What you do is bug a few farmers, butchers, and small grocers. Most of them will be afraid to sell to you at first because there may be local laws against selling, say, expired meats to people. But mine came around because he eventually believed that it was for dogs; he now knows I do rescue, and isn't worried. He also sells some to pig farmers. (dang it). Anyway, the more you bug them, and leave a phone number, the more they will be tempted to make a fast buck off their garbage....

Also, don't forget the farm auctions....I know cowboys who get whole injured cows for 9 cents a pound (I know one guy who got a cow for TWO cents a pound), take them home and hack them up and feed them to the pack. Gross. Cowboys are kinda hard-assed, no? But the dogs eat well. Have any hunter friends? Get their offal and legs. And then when they leave the meat in the freezer until it's freezer burnt, get that too!

It's all about getting creative. Took me like 3 years to get my contacts solid.

PS. Don't forget about local cooperatives...

Whole chicken cost me about 3.50 from costco ;) chicken back well that's only .40 per 1lb. If you look around stores have extra saving when they go too heavy on their order ;) I call all my friends and if they are about to throw out any frozen food I go and pick it up, I called up all my friends that go fishing on regular basis, many times I can get whole fish, if not they are more than happy to give away heads which dogs love, dry food cost me about .40 -.80 per pound so raw cost me about .89 but no more vet visit, want to take my dog to vet well with whole check up and other b/s vaccinations thats 500 per year, you give your dog Oriejan right? Well in my city that's about 1.40 per lb dare to guess how much money I save? For long time i though the leg work is not worth it when you have dry around but than the consistency just tick me off and I said I will find the time and couldn't be more happy.

Over the period of living here i have been to 7 supermarkets around 20 butchers, without luck The cost is too high over here If i have a piece of Steak it is no more than 6 oz weight before cooked, if you have salmon its about 3oz weight but it is a rich fish so you do not need much of it
Stacy, Matt would get into that T Shirt if he lived here for just a short time that is for sure
Just for interest how much does a large loaf of white bread cost in the USA, over here it is 3 USA Dollars

Steve,
HAHAHA! Yes Matt would fit into that shirt in no time!
For a large loaf of store brand bread you can get it for about a dollar. Some of the more expensive breads it is around 3 dollars. I have always bought the cheap bread, but when I go to the inlaws they have the "good stuff" It really does taste better and is softer, but I will stick with the store brand myself :-)
