I think if your dog has an elbow score of 3, that will in someway be reflected in the Grade the dog receives.
Can a dog actually Fail?

I’ve asked this question before……how many failures has there been out of 800 plus dogs that have been breed surveyed to date?. Nobody has answered. There mostly seems to be grade 1‘s with a few grade 2‘s but where are the failures? Surely with a breed survey, there must be some failures because without failures the breed survey would be meaningless.

There have been failures, I think I've seen the details in our BC mag, though it may be some years ago. Your notion of the survey being meaningless without failures, may simply amount to owners not having their stock surveyed unless they're confident of a grade 1 or 2. Once we get ahead with our new system, more stock will have to be surveyed.

That would be my thoughts, you don't put your dog in unless you know it's going to come out with a 1 or a 2.
I didn't have my bitch surveyed because I was pretty damn sure she'd have gotten a 2.
Maybe now today she'd have more chance of a 1 but back then... wrong body type! Now too late she's gone.

I also know an ex breeder that was going to breed survey their gsd but decided not to as it would not have a grade 1 or 2
maybe the answer is to breed only dogs that are breed surveyed.

Anyone with half a brain, wouldn't breed from a dog that couldn't get a 1 or 2
Unfortunatly there's a lot of people out there that are lacking the half a brain in question :(

After reading the last few posts I would also be interested to know how many failures there have been from over 800 dogs surveyed ?, surely there must be somebody that can answer this ?. I take on board that breeders would only survey the dogs they thought would get a class 1 or 2 so going by that it gives the impression that most of the 800 + surveyed dogs are all of breedable quality does it not ?.

All dogs surveyed are published in the Breed Council yearbooks. So it's easily researched if someone has access to all the books.
The only data I have is this:
Out of 56 dogs surveyed in 2003 Only one was ungraded due to Hip Status.

Doubtless, someone will know but they clearly (sensibly?) don't frequent this board.
I would expect a Class 1 or Class 2 animal to be breed worthy... to the right partner.
