Thanks for the info. A dog needs a BH and AD for a KKL right? So even an HGH dog that is KKL1 would still have an AD, BH, and enough bitework training to pass the courage tests.

there is no longer any bitework requirement in the HGH - only an "alert" test where the helper comes out of hiding and the dog must stand his ground and preferably bark at him. That's it. It used to be a test similar to the protection test at breed survey, but no longer.
The HGH titled dog does not need a BH or AD to get a KKl (breed survey) or conformation rating.

One assumes that for a HGH dog to receive a breed survey, the dog would have to do the same protection work as other dogs in the survey. Also, if a hypothetical HGH were to go VA or V at a sieger show, the dog would have to pass a similar performance routine with a pronounced rating.

The SV has some discrepancies when it comes to the rating of an HGH title. Their awards system rates the HGH title the same way as a SchH 3. On the other hand, there are no VA rated dogs with an HGH title only. It is true that they like to see a SchH title on the dog also in order to rate the dog VA although I am unaware of any official requirement stating this. However, this is a bit a red herring anyway since HGH titled dogs are hardly ever VA material anyway.
I titled the afore mentioned Galaxy v Ajaye. He is a very solid V rated dog but definitely not VA material (Sorry Maren, I hope that didn’t hurt your feelings ).
In a breed survey a HGH titled dog has to show the same routine as a SchH titled dog. Just the prerequisites are different (no AD needed).
Molly is correct with the description of the protection test in an HGH trial. The emphasis in an HGH trial is, of course, the herding aspect. The protection test is merely a traditional part of an HGH trial and does not affect the outcome.
