It used to be a very small board of working dog people but over the years more and more users signed up, which means more of every type of poster. It is not just the PDB in which you need thick skin, but the dog world as a whole. You have to learn to weed out the good from the bad, take what you can learn from people you feel you can trust, ignore the people who are belittling and nasty and let what they say roll off your back. And you will misjudge people both ways, it's inevitable.
I know personally many lurkers on this board. And some of the most judgemental, rude people here likely have no idea what people are really saying about them away from this board due to their actions here, and there are SO many people who would never post here because of a handful of pirahnas.
Of course, some hide their identity so they will never feel the ramifications of what they say to others, but that can't be helped. I tend to ignore those who fiercely guard their real identity, if you can't own what you say, it says a little something about what you say.
Now I am of a mind, as long as someone if following an established set of rules and is meeting the requirements to ensue they are breeding dogs of good health, sound body and mind, I have no problem with them whatsoever. There is room for more than one type, physically and mentally, in this breed. You can have dogs that are sound, healthy, and have working ability (varying degrees of it!) and still uphold the GSD. There are some types I prefer over others, sure, but I respect them all. It blows my mind that we have people here who breed to the same standard, follow the same set of rules, but because they don't personally like the other person's type of dog, they have a zero respect policy. The real enemy to the breed are those who would spit on a working standard, refuse to health test, lie to their buyers, dump their retired bitches in shelters, or don't care approriately for their dogs. We have problems with our organizations, our judges, health problems popping up right and left, our entire SV system is tenuous and at the mercy of those who would use it dishonestly, and here we are, bitching about the same old crap we'll never see eye to eye on.
Donner, the thing is, many people like you who will respect someone else's right to like a different type, eventually stop coming here because they can't stand sifting through all the vitriol to find something useful. However, some of us are stubborn and opinionated and maybe a bit nuts, so we keep coming back. And good things do come of it. This board has found homes for dogs in dire need, warned potential victims of crooked people, raised money to pay for dogs' medical care, supported rescues, helped people find the right breeder or trainer for them, and more.
You won't change anyone. You just have to learn navigate around them if you want to glean anything useful.

All in all, I see more people receiving good information than useless negative feedback. Yes there are some "a"holes, or people who say things behind the safety of their keyboards, but nothing can be done about that. Overall their are a good number of people who are very knowledable (sp?) and helpful.
I think this is one of those is the glass half empty or half full type of things.
