She is quite well known.....and from the results has put up the type I would expect from her!

by DoreenS on 30 August 2009 - 14:08

I was at the show and have to agree the judging was disgraceful. However ,as much as we want to complain  I'm sure any complaint made to the Kennel Club will be ignored by them. The animals winning on the day is very, very sadly the type of Shepherd that they are promoting, this is the Breed Standard as seen by the Kennel Club. If you want a German Shepherd that is as long as train, with short legs, flat back, head strung up with a lead as thick as a shoe lace to get its ears up and with a very dodgy temperament you''re onto a winner. If however you want a true German Shepherd that is capable of working, that has a good steady temperament, that actually LOOKs like a German Shepherd you haven't  a hope in Hell.I have always been against a split in the breed simply because I didn't really know how it would work and more to the point I didn't know who would be capable of running things from "our side" but as time goes on I'm beginning to feel there is no other option. I am rapidly becoming more and more disillusioned and after more than 30 years in a breed that I love I am feeling it's time to give up.

I think that wev'e all been to shows where the judge has not prefered our type and I believe that as long as we have such a variation in type we will have problems accepting the consquences.
Were the entries much different at the last 2 SKC shows?
Hands up It was me who requested the outside attraction to be stopped in the SPYD class and the judge correctly obliged.
The method of moving a dogs leg by tapping it on the toe may seem to be unusual but let me assure you it is a very light touch. The dog ajusts itself naturally and you don't put the dog out of balance as with lifting the leg with your hand .
My dog did have his teeth checked and was examined in a proper manner. By the way his hips are 6:5 and Elbows 0
so as you can see some of us do health check you can confirm this via the KC web checker.
What I do admit is I realise he is not everyones cup of tea but like many others I win or loose as the judge decides on the day but allways take the best dogs home.
May I congratulate the lady who came second in his class for her handshake and sportsmanship. Pity some can't have a similar approach but I wish you luck in retriving your cash from the SKC.

john, if u thought that was good judging god help us, the woman was an absolute idiot and had'nt a clue, did you not watch her? are all these people that have commented wrong, i was there and it was an absolute disgrace, in all my years of showing it was by far the worst i've ever seen

by shostring on 30 August 2009 - 19:08

truckindog yes we have all been to shows where we dont agree with the judges decision but unfortunatly this judge was not up to the job    she never checked the males to see if they had 2 testicals yes she checked the teeth but scraped her nails along the teeth held the tail out to see the lengh moved the dogs round the very small ring then in a triangle this is no way to see how a gsd moves   the judges double handling was priceless throwing paper and anything she could find on the ground to get the dogs ears to go up    and no the dogs were not my type  but there are many middle of the road dog that are very nice specimen  that do have good leg lengh nice clean top line and good sound movement    most of the dogs  this judge placed at  the  top of the classes were unsound in movement and had dippy backs and the unsound  temperaments were shocking these dogs were shiriving and shying off the judge but if you string a dog up by the neck with a chock chain as thin as a shoe lace well the dog is going to be frightened  quite a lot of the dogs at this show were not of the standered they are 50s style dogs if this is what  kind of gsd the kc  want well I for one will hold my own shows with true decent judges  and yes I was entered but did not put my dog in  and one last note well done for your dogs hip and elbow score

For me some of these animals were verging on bi-coloured corgis and were serverly over weight.

There were many many nervous animals especially the MPD.

The Judge did not check ANYof the males to see wether they were entire.

Most of these animals were strung up on dental floss collars and the owners had to use there thumbs to keep there ears erect.

Fair enough if she wasn't going for middle of the road or German type but atleast she could have Judged the dogs properly.

Nope the entry was any different than it usually is for the SKC but many of the alsatianists didn't enter under her because the last time she judged she put mainly the German type up, so why the sudden change?

Apparently she has been leaned on by the KC to promote this type of shepherd she as the KC believe these are more to THERE standard than any other.

The best part of the day for me was being asked by a member of the public "Is this the German Shepherd ring?", to which i replied "Yes" and his reply made me chuckle "So what kind of dogs are these ones that are in the ring  now?".

by shostring on 30 August 2009 - 20:08

I was speaking to a person he is an all round  judge his comment was dont knock these dogs they are international dogs there asses are in england and there heads in Scotland  that is how bad some of these dogs were

by reble yell on 30 August 2009 - 21:08

Where do i start !!!! The judge seems to be a good place ....the fact that she never checked the males to see if they were entire the fact that she was double handling was the funniest thing i have ever seen and a waste o time the dogs ears came up but soon went down again she was pathetic at on point i watched the corgies in the next ring things were so bad. If there is a breed standard she def does not either know or understand it she had no buisness judging gsd's it was clear she has great danes most of the dogs she put up were almost the same size. I did not show my dog under her and never would. she should be struck of........if such a thing exsists anyone else making such a mockery of a job they are supposed to be qualified to carry out would be. I for one believe that the kennel club were behind this farce.....these animals may be genetically related but that is where the similarities end. if this is what they want then they should take the name alsation / English shepherd because you cannot change another countries breed to suit your self. I heard one woman say to some one My dog is a german shepherd and i wanted to say well you will be at the british sieger then and happy to show under a german judge......I think not none of these dogs would be given any credance any where else in the world they are too long too fat to nervouse hookey dipped in the back only missing a saddle. well done to the winners am sure you love your dogs just as i love mine but if you truely believe they are propper GSD'S please show them to german judges after all its there breed not ours . finally forget getting your money back i have we need to get someone to hold the kennel club accountable for there actions how dare they talk to us about health problems then promote which i am sure if vets and specialists were brought in would be a most unsound type also double handling ha ha ha there excuse for a judge was the only one doing that ....If we want our breed to survive and become a sound healthy breed we need to take action now other wise the mighty KC will continue to destroy all we have worked hard to achieve

Disgraceful

by linedancer 13 on 31 August 2009 - 08:08

As the breeder of the CC winner hips score 2/3 and also owner/breeder of the RCC   halfway through his health checks to any one at the SKC  neither of these dogs failed in temperment  in any way ,yes they are topsize  with good length of foreleg.  and enough rear angle to  correspond with out being overdone and they do look like males.
and they are both sound in movement full brothers and yes it was me who said yes my dog is a German Shepherd,i will not have  some women standing outside the ring staring me right in the face  and saying that to me  that is just plain rude and i spoke to her afterwards.
We may not  all have the same type of  GSD but we  all love our dogs and the breed.
As for the MPD  a L Heeler was running loose and had just gone for the puppy about 10 mins before judging and had upset him  and no it did'nt look good in the ring also a couple of other dogs  were not happy either and they were not of the type the Judge   was placing  so it is not all one sided.
