My bitch that you have been helping me with would be considered "plush", but still a "stock" or normal coat. Plush is just a term that refers to a very heavy, thick coat.
All the dogs that I have seen at the club are "stock" coats, but they have varying length of hair and "thickness" of coat.

A coated puppy can have the same "length or look" of coat in the show lines as the "stock coated" puppies......but the "face" is slightly different. The always have a "Yorkie or Schnauzer-ish" looking face.....however;....that "look" changes fast as they reach 8-9 weeks old, and then you can really only tell by the areas around the ears...& the "hair type".
Thats why "we" taught ourselves to be able to distinguish them within a few days after birth.....

I think it will deifnetely be a long coat. By the way isnt that a bit small for a 7 week old German shepherd puppy?

Thanks Mystere you all ways come thru to educate those that don't have a clue - does this have to do with breeding? what? I still don't understand - why are there so many threads that ask - "what kind of coat do you think this pup has"........
Is it that same division that is also going on that has to do with "working" or "show" line GSD's....?
Please EDUCATE ME!

happyday, a long coat is considered not as desirable and under most circumstances will sell at a reduced price. not a fault in the U.S., but I have never seen one shown. I think they are disqualified from showing by the S.V.
There are long coats in all lines of the GSD. Working and show.
2 normal coated dogs can produce long coats since it is a recessive gene. I think people just get antsy and want opinions from others here who have more experience in things like this.
It would have no effect on the working ability of the dog.
If you have never seen a long coat, here is one.
