I have a great grand daughter named Tasha of Ursus Von Batu born on 9.3.2010. She too has great posture and rich bloodline. She is a show quality female and already won her first bronze medal. She has already made news as was shown on TV on the day of show, really proud of her and her line.

I have adirect Ursus son. He is very dominant for producing the type of the fatherline. He probably bears a closer similarity to Ursus than any Ursus son I've seen.

This picture, yuck. Ursus is a breathtaking dog, one of the most influential GSDs of our time. This photo has a very unattractive yellow tint to it. Why? You could post a B&W photo of him and everyone would still see how stunning he is!

I have Ursus daughter she is breeding bith.(born 2002)
Great colour, and beautiful head. Great powerfull and big puppies, but first of all is a STRONG CHARACTER.
I have seen many shepherds from various bloodlines, but this line in my opinion is with the best working potential(of course in GDS showlines!)
I dont like Zamp!!! and his bloodline. This is bad way in gsd breeding. Small dogs looking like bitches, small heads!!

I personally own an imported Ursus Batu granddaughter and she is OFA-Good on hips and has never displayed any health problems. She's got excellent learning drive and super conformation, solid nerves. She is currently 4 yrs old and is in the prime of health. But even with such a nice Ursus granddaughter prospect, it's till useful to hear of other information from other people, whether it be positive or negative about breeding combinations. Maybe some problems aren't so much the Ursus blood, but when the autosomal recessive trait of defects such as cryptorchidism are produced in a combination of bloodlines, putting a finger on the culprit for such may prove a bit more difficult since both parents of the directly affected individual HAD to be carriers of the defect(less than 1% of cryptorchid cases is from a genetic mutation-fluke). Therefore, they had to aquire carrying of such a recessive trait then from THEIR parents...which may or may not have been Ursus blood. It deserves consideration, but we've not had a problem nor produced the cryptorchid or dysplastic condition ourselves with either our Ursus granddaughter OR imported Ursus great-granddaughter. A friend also has an Ursus great-grandson with OFA-Good hips and normal elbows and is completely normal.

Hi all,

I was wondering if smeone can tell me how this male has a capability to give such a good head and that to very consistently of same kind... alomst looking at the pic we can say the dog is from ursus lines.
How is that possible... is this mere him or sme of the ansistors who are helping him and his decendents to give such a nice look and sunstance..

Thank you. The Dam is Ursa von der Zenteiche. Do you know anything about her?
I thought I had done my homework. I have a 5 year old female shepherd that was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 14 months old. So I decided to pay the big bucks to avoid such problems which obviously didn't work. He has more problems than her. Of course my dream of showing, Schutzhund or search and rescue is gone.

He is a gorgeous "lover boy!"

I too have a beautiful Ursus von Batu grandson, sire:Jaguar von der Mausespitz.
He is gorgeous, with the best temperament. But, I was wondering if anyone has had health problems with any of their decendents of Ursus von Batu. My "Jagger" is 18 months old, has one testicle, a neurological problem in his hind legs that every diagnostic procedure has not been able to determine the cause. He has elbow dysplasia, one hip that is looking bad and has had a recent bout of panoseitis. Is he a fluke?

Any help would be appreciated.

The stamp of Ursus may be consistently seen in his descendants for many generations. Almost invariably, when I click on a new photo (in the "Latest Pictures" section of this site) of a dog/pup that really catches my eye, the dog is either a descendant of Ursus or is linebred on Ursus.

Yes, I, too, own a direct Ursus son (V Geronimo vom Olympus SchH3 IPO3)--he bears a striking resemblance to his sire in terms phenotype, genotype, and his exuberant character. Geronimo's outstanding bitework is admired by all--whether they have show or working lines.

For the eventual day when there are no longer available direct Ursus sons, my Ursus son's semen is being collected, frozen, and stored for future generations.

After reading all the comments it is without any doubt that Ursus is one of best producers in the hostory of GSD world. I am very new to GSD world but even I can recognise if a particular dog has a Ursus in his/her pedigree. Ursus has a typical stamp of his on progeny's head.
Ursus will be present in all top dogs pedigree's for at least 25 years to come. Like we see Uran or Quando.
Hats off and many many thanks to Mr. Erich Orschler for producing such a wonderful dog.

I just acquired a great grandson of Ursus. He is absolutely beautiful. Beautiful head and coloring definitely favors the ursus side. He is going to be quite large. Has a strong herding drive. I am a newbie at German Shepherds but my breeder was wonderful. I love each day as new things come about with Deuce.

Completely agree to Big b as Erasmus is producing great progeny!

After Ursus i think it will be Erasmus!

ursus gave Yasko and yasko gave Erasmus and only time will tell what Erasmus has to offer!

Erasmus i think is a better producer than larus as we haven't seen his progeny being placed high.

Yea 100% right the Martins knew exatly what they were talking about..... even in Far of places like India where we have limited access to top dogs and bloodlines sticking to the concoction of Jeck and Zamb gives us Superb results.... and Ursus epitomises this very vision and there is a little bit of him in every single offspring of his Iv set my eyes on so far. his granddaughter with me too is apleasure to look at! truely Martins were GODs.Herr Stepanitz is the father of the GSD but the Martin brothers I can safely say are like the GODFATHERS for our breed.
Looks like Now Ursus being a heady mix of Jeck and Zamb is the dog to line breed to, hope Larus provides as much! thankyou

It seems to me that Walter Martin knew what he was talking about in this 1992 quote...
Ursus being a son of Hobby Gletschertopf, and Hobby being a Son of Jeck

"The next big sire in Germany with great genetic potential to raise the breed again, believe me, will come only from Zamb Wienerau or from Jeck Noricum (both sons of Odin Tannenmeise, who is a son of Quando Arminius) only from these two dogs, not from any other. Never. Never" Walter Martin

My dream dog on paper/pedigree as well as in structure. Seen a couple of sons and G.sons of his.....really wonder here we have Yasko who made Seiger/VA1 at a very young age... and the among the dogs here some seem like they need more time to mature! lil bit confused about the development of dogs in this line!.... Ursus himself did not do well as a youngster! Theoretically his STRONG breeding should ensure he is a Genetic super power!
Love the Dog all the same

This is a dog pedigree, used by breeders and breed enthusiasts to see the ancestry and line-breeding of that individual dog. The pedigree page also contains links to the dogs siblings and progeny (if any exist). For dog owners with purebred dogs this is an excellent resource to study their dog's lineage.
