Loss of nail pigment - Page 1

I have a 6 year old female who was always well pigmented with black nails. She did start to lose the black of her saddle when she was about 2. Just recently I noticed two of her front nails have turned pink - is this an irreversible loss of pigment, like losing the black saddle? or could it be an indication of a lack of certain minerals, vitamins etc? I am no longer showing her, but would be interested to know if any one else has notcied this happening?

Females will get "salt and pepper" on the back with the age. That is normal. Generally loss off pigmentation is a first sign of degeneration of a bloodline. Pink gums, nose,   light eyes, nails  which are not black on mature dogs,  washed out colors and loss of pigmentation with age. And so on. It can also be a medical condition.Vitiligo? But probably not a vet. condition,... but I you may want to talk to a vet just to be sure.

i got a question.
i have a male that has loss of black pigment in his fron t nails, since he was 8 months.
other wise he has good saddle good black everywhere else.
and i always wonder if there was a [problem or it it was  just him.
his back nails are good black color, its just his front nails.
got any ideas.

Apart from the (partial) loss of the saddle and the two front nails this female has very good pigmentation - everthying else that should be black is black - and so were all the nails until very recently. She has a rich red colour with no fading and dark undercoat. Strange?
