"Every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me a piece of their heart. If I live long enough all the components of my heart will be dog and I will become as generous and loving as they are. " Anon

In French “Plus je connais les hommes, plus j'aime les chiens” attributed to Madame Roland, Blaise Pascal, LaMartine, Emile Zola and Voltaire among others.
In English "The more I see of my fellow man, the better I like my dog." attributed in various versions to Mark Twain and Thomas Carlyle
In German, "Je mehr ich von Menschen sehe, desto besser gefällt mir mein Hund." Frederick the Great among others...
Clearly a universally held sentiment at least in Western countries, though apparently not in those countries where dogs are bred to be and are eaten...

DOG = Depend On God
Meow?
"Anybody who doesn't know what soap tastes like never washed a dog." - Franklin P. Jones
“Dog is God spelled backward.” —Duane Chapman
“The most affectionate creature in the world is a wet dog.” —Charles Dickens
“The dog is the most faithful of animals and would be much esteemed were it not so common. Our Lord God has made his greatest gift the commonest.” —Martin Luther
“Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” —Groucho Marx
Auslese beat me to one of my all-time faves:
"The more I see of my fellow man, the better I like my dog." attributed in various versions to Mark Twain and Thomas Carlyle
One of the saddest, but oh, so true quotes about dogs, which also applies to cats:
“Having a dog will bless you with the happiest days of your life and one of the worst days.” —Unknown
