Hi All,

BAGSD Walsall held a Breed Survey on behalf of Sheffield GSD Club on Sunday 26th July 2009.

Of 7 entries all 7 gained a classifcation.

Indeed several entrants were 'working' dogs so it is good to see the 'working' side get involved in the 'show' side.

Details can be found here:

vpguk.com/#/vpg-news/

Pictures can be seen here:

vpguk.com/#/breed-survey-2009/

Still a few more pics to be added soon.

Can I take this opportunity to say how pleased I am that several active members of VPG took the time and effort and expense to attend this event and get their dogs out into the show side of the breed.

Well done.

A special well done and huge thanks to those that are involved in the organising and running of these events, without whom I think there would be no events like this!

Prehaps this is the start of a bridge for both 'working' and 'showing' to cross into each other..............!?

On a personal note, I'd like to thank Samantha Hall (Gayvilles) for her help preparing my Link for the survey and for handling him there......oh yeah and the cream cakes are on me today

Big congratulations to all... I hope you're right Diesel, that it's the start of a bridge between us.

hope this disease does not catch in OIther parts of the sane world. This spells the doom of the true working dog...

I'm really saddened....

... and I'm really grateful that such inane, tunnel vision is not across the board.

Hi Diesel,
Great to see your news
I think all GSDs should take a breed survey but by the same account all GSDs should attempt some kind off working/obedience training.
I cannot take part in working trials or shutzhund do to disability, but do some obedience and my wife (who is fitter than me) does agility. Also so to clarify We have be breeding and showing GSDs for over 20 years.
The main reason I posted is I have used the link provided but cannot see any information on your web site regarding your post.

It is always a good thing when people can demonstrate that their dogs are fit for purpose both in conformation and working.  My GSD Jake at Jotunheim AD SchH3 CDex UDex WDex  gained a Class 1 Breed Survey a couple of years ago.

I have always shown and worked my Weimaraners (the last two have won at Championship level in the breed ring and the last one has CDex UDex WDex TDex AD FH1 and FH2 to name just the Schutzhund/WT qualifications as well) and see no reason not to do the same with GSDs, I think gulfs are more imaginary than real. ;)

I think the whole system needs to be changed.

I,d like to see changes made that would only allow local clubs to hold trials to award only to the Sch2 level then each region would have to hold 3 trials spaced evenly thru the year and only the Sch 3 title would be awarded there in this trial all dogs would have to get there title, comformation rating and kore classing and all the dogs working and show lines would have to be worked by the same judges and helpers.

They would also have to return the test to a real breed worthiness test.

This would solve lots of problems and also bring this breed back to where it needs to be a working breed with proper structre or atleast a proper working structre.
