I don't know all the ins and outs of importing, but I DO know it took me 9 months to get the papers on my puppy because her sire wasn't yet registered with AKC. AKC was very fussy, too. They wanted him DNA'd. The owner had moved from Germany to Poland, so they also needed proof that this was still the same dog that had been originally registered with the SV in Germany.
May you have better luck with the process than my pup's breeder did!

So the parents have to be registered with AKC already for them to accept papers?
My dog is 2 years already. I moved and then I filled out the papers from the Belgian Registry on the back in the change of name/address section and procrastinator that I am, never sent them in. Now I've moved again. I will have to ask my breeder if his parents are DNA'd, so I can get his done, I guess lol. I really have no idea what I'm doing.
How important is it anyway to have AKC papers? From what I have been reading on here and other sites, I don't need AKC papers to compete in SchH trials, is this true?
Thanks Again

Yes, they have to be AKC registered before the pups can be registered. Sire must be DNA'd as well, as he was from a foreign country. Another SNAFU was the breeder forgot to sign off the back of the SV papers, so in the eyes of the AKC he didn't even own the dog yet! LOL!
They also required photos of the dog. And it took THREE tries to get the DNA sample done. First one was blank. Second one got lost in shipping. At one point, Harry said if he ever got the AKC certificate, he was going to FRAME it!
Don't know about the schutzhund question.

I am thinking that Galan's parents are AKC, but only because I seem to remember an email between the breeder and I discussing what I had to do to get the AKC papers. My short term memory is bad, you can imagine what I've forgotten from 2 years ago, maybe I still have the emails saved.
Anyway I am reserving a pup from the same breeder, due in September. I am NOT moving anymore either lol! I know for sure both parents are DNA'd, but will have to ask about the AKC.
I think I had seen a post on here ages ago about registering dogs with a certain Schutzhund Club. Hmmm Guess I'll start searching old posts, again
Thanks Sunsilver!

If the dog is an import, only the dog itself has to be registered with AKC. If the sire and dam were imported to the US and a litter was whelped here, then the sire and dam must be registered, 2 photos..front and side stacked, and DNAed.
If you go to www.AKC.org , registration of imports, it will give you all the requirements.

MAN! I also just realized that my year old showline bitch's parents may not be AKC. Her sire I recently found out is deceased. I know his pedigree, but I know only the name of the dam, as my friend in France hasn't sent me her papers/pedigree yet, though he has had them for awhile since we lost contact for about a year...Long story short, he went to Germany and got her from Ernetranch (nice name drop? lol) and sent her to me as a gift. So we're back in touch and I'm expecting the papers soon. Or soon enough anyway lol
Dam is Kim V. Waschtengraben, and I cannot find ANYTHING about her online, except a possible littermate brother. Whenever I google her my old post pops up with me asking id anyone knows of her lol
