i was wondering if people actually use it in their breeding programs so i checked up on some of the reputable breeders that i follow and checked some of the dogs that they have bred and they do then i compared it to some ddr breeders who breed without a standard in mind and its as expected.

DDR was divided in districts under leadership by appointed in there very experienced and knowledgeable people in the field of service breed dogs. that was kind of centralized monitoring of development of breed. leader of the ward must personally know every dog in ward, with all pros and cons and recommend/oversee selection for mating. also duty was to coordinate cooperation with other districts.

to call this "breeding without a standard in mind" is a plain rubbish.

Valk you misunderstood what i said lol. There are people that breed ddrs that are only ddr by pedigree and arent even good enough to be working dogs.They do not have the structurr or the temperment of ddrs

And in any case ValK, whether true 'DDR' or not, you know perfectly well the vast majority of GSD breeders in this world are not in or around any part of Germany or the original system, they are not formed into groups or districts under the auspices of any controlling individual who knows all their dogs. COI may have been developed with that system in mind but it has shown useful in other circumstances.

OP, Pirschgangs answer 'Yes and no' is closer to the truth ... it seems some do, some don't; some have for some litters but not others.

I embark all of my outside stud dogs and use embarks prediction tools with the aim of producing dogs with a COI under 30%

to avoid confusion you shouldn't call those breeders "DDR breeders". they have nothing in common with culture, tradition and value of
breeding system in former DDR and do use terms DDR only with purpose to up own competitiveness in dog's market.
