Hi. Next year or next year I want to buy a German shepherd line of work, to take care of the house and the family, balanced and without fear, I do not want it very sporty, what breeder do you know in Europe? I am from Spain.

Contact Duke1965, he posts in here regularly and he is located in Europe, I am certain he can help you.

I think the term "sporty" is a misnomer/inaccurate term. There are dogs that do well at sport because they have desirable traits for sport and can be operationable in real world applications. Often, I think when people say they don't want a sporty dog, the real underlying reason is that they don't have the knowledge or desire to train a dog in sport, which is fine. Many dogs are "sporty" because they have had thousands of hours of training in a particular sport. Ideally, the better, more balanced dogs would bite for real with some discernment if a threat came into play. Not all sport dogs are bouncing off the walls. Many have very good prey drive and settle in the house just fine. Some not so much or not at all. And then there are clearly dogs that are so prey oriented and lacking in other traits they they will never have the motivation to be civil. While sport (some more than others IMO) have their drawbacks, one thing is that they require a high level of training that allows the handler to learn a lot about what behavior in a dog is genetic vs. learned and that can help in making better breeding decisions as long as your goal is not to breed for unbalanced dogs with traits primarily suitable to win at certain sports at the expense of other traits that are part of a breed's standard regarding being a working dog. I would be interested in hearing the OP's idea of what a "sporty" dog is.

My English is bad and I don't express anything well. I am referring to sports from western Germany sports lines, although sport can be done by a show or by East Germany. I have two dogs in my house, a male with Blitz vom felsenwandle lines, Troll Von der Bosen .... and a female daughter of Gringo Ja Na Ka, lines by Falk von den Wolfen, Nash, Javir talka Marda .... I want to try another type of older lines. What breeder is there in Europe with those lines?

Apple, the term "sporty" refers to the lines that you already are well aware of. The ones that produce great sport dogs and not much else.
Sure, there is always the exception, but, why look for that exception when you can skip it all together and buy something that suits your needs directly?
When someone has no interest in sport, when one is looking for something that will operate in the "real world", that is what one needs to focus on and buy.
I believe that most people are aware of how much time and effort to takes to train and title a dog in a sport, the dedication and the financial commitment is amazing, but, 95% of people have zero interest pursuing that endeavor.
As far as dogs biting "for real", you actually have to see one do it, in the real world with a real bad guy who fights back, before you can make a statement that a dog will bite for real because, with a very very few exceptions, you have no idea until it happens.

One kennel txa might want to check out is ze Stribrneho Kamane 00420-776-635927 in the Czech Republic. She uses a lot of so-called sporty West German working lines, but they are mixed with Czech dogs and many go back to some of the old, strong DDR lines. I think she is trying to produce dogs capable of high level sport and real world application in many of her breedings. There are not many purely old line Eastern bloc breedings out there.

Duke1965's dog Xido goes back to old Czech lines. He has produced some very nice offspring with several different bitches.

I'm sure xido has a lot going on between the ears if Duke owns him, but also what a gorgeous animal.

txarkoeta,

How do you like your Gringo Ja Na Ka daughter? Do you have a link/website to her pedigree?

by txarkoeta on 29 May 2020 - 18:05

It's called Perla Du Terminus Ost, you can see it in working dog or pedigreedatabase
