9/2/18

My name is David Thompson. For the past 18 months I've had a $500 deposit with Jenn Segal and Malinger Kennels. I don't  know any of the parties involved in previous posts about Jenn or her kennels. I have multiple times requested a copy of the Malinger Kennel contract through email. I still have these emails. I saw a post on line from Jill Missal about her experience with this kennel. I do not know, nor have I ever met Jill Missal. In her post she included a copy of the contract that Jenn Segal, Malinger Kennel requires to be signed when you pick up your puppy. As of this date 9/2/18 I have not received and official contract from her. I ask Jenn if the contract that Ms. Missal posted was in fact her contract. Jenn's response was that

Ms. Missal was a disgruntled customer, but did not initially admit that it was her contract. I took the contract to a friend that is a staff attorney with the State's Attoeney's General Office. After reviewing it he strongly advised me not to sign the contract. Jenn finally admitted that the contract was accurate and ask what I didnt agree with. She said it was only to protect the dog. The last paragraph of her contract under: Rights Of Breeder, states "Breeder has the right to remove your dog from your home, yard, or private property without prior notice. Written notice will be provided but may not include prior notice. I informed Jenn that in Louisiana not only was entering private property illegal but it could be dangerous. One other ridiculous stipulation is that: Libel/Slander against Jenn Segal or Malinger Kennel will result in a $10,000 fine. Tell me how that protects a puppy. I will not disparage the quality of the dogs produced by her or her kennel. They are beautiful dogs. I will say how unprofessional she is for withholding her contract and its conditons until after the $500 deposit is placed, or until the puppy is picked up. Had I known I would have never gotten involved with Jenn Segal and Malinger Kennels. Buyer beware! Feel free to contact me at davidmichaelthompson@yahoo.com

Are you prepared to 'walk away' from your $500 deposit? There are enough breeders of quality, PROVEN (with verifiable titles, not just empty claims) working Malinois in the USA, that it would behoove you to do more research and find another breeder, IMO (the IMO is for any possible slander BS).

Thanks Koots but what alternative do I have. I am a little gun shy right now.

Follow your instinct and look elsewhere would be my recommendation - that is what I would do. This is also what a friend of mine did after reviewing the 'conditions' of purchasing a pup from that kennel.

Look on some working dog sites, check the trial results in several organizations and see who is breeding Mals. You may even be able to find a breeder close to you who has proven, titled dogs. Finding a working Mal is not hard but you need to do your research and educate yourself.

What do you want a Mal for - sport, detection, SAR, 'pet'?   BTW, there a big difference in a certified, validated SAR dog and one who is not.   My dog has been out with the local SAR group and done search profiles with a validated handlers, but he is not a SAR dog.  Ask for validation proof, proof of working/sport titles, etc.

I want to make as people aware as possible so they dont end up in the same boat.
