I understand that crossing showline with working line is not the best idea but I just want to hear your thoughts on this breeding. She has really high prey drive and decent nerve, he has extremly high drive, super confident and fearless. I would expect healthy dogs with solid nerve and decent drives from this litter but really have no experience breeding. I do not  plan on breeding these two unless those of you with experience think it would benefit the breed.  Thanks!

Just because she's got a solid nerve, doesn't mean that the puppies are going to have good nerves. Nerve and Sharpness is the one thing I'd be concerned about with this combination based on whats in the background of both dogs.

Thanks! what do you see in his background? Low threshold to bite on his side and weak nerve on her side? sounds like a ticking time bomb.

"I understand that crossing showline with working line is not the best idea..."

There is nothing wrong with crossing a show line with a working line. A German Shepherd is a German Shepherd. It is the individual dogs themselves. Just FYI.

I wouldn't do it. If "decent" is the best you can say about her nerves, and you can't say every ancestor was that way, I would skip it. Too much chance of "wild cards" in this pairing, imo.

An imageDam was bred to a son of jaro jahe before I bought her and this is one of the pups, I think this breeding might be worth it...

well, I guess I could say something, but think Jenn pretty well covered it.

and I am in no way opposed to breeding wl/sl, sl/sl, wl/wl, am/sl/whatever. but if it's not the top of the top, what is one hoping to accomplish.

i guess the dogs, who in practical utilization did prove to be worthy beyond expectations.
but what do i know about today's values in regard of service dogs. seems for many GSD breeders
the color and curve of back prevail above everything else.

b.t.w. you should think for moment - the level of position, occupied by dog, mainly depends on subjective
perception by judges, be it show or sport competition. it doesn't means, by default dogs really good by itself
or exceptionally potent in producing of clones of itself. i'm curious what is your objectives and expectations from such
mating - superior show specimens, very strong working dogs, flashy sport performers, outstanding family pets?

sorry, did not mean to be confusing. the GSD comes in more variations than any dog in the world. ASL, GSL, W/l, competition (club, national, international level) obedience, tracking, police, military, S&R, drug sniffers, cadaver, almost any service/hobby that a dog can perform.

"Top of the Top" is a subjective term and best interpreted by one's use and goals for the dog. Maybe best of the best would be a better term. I have seen what I would consider TOT at the club level, all breed show level, specialty show level, police sponsored competitions and many other venues.

What made them TOT, in my opinion only, is that they excelled at the goals they were set to.

HTH,

Rik
