An imageMy friend sent me some pics of her male shepherd pups front legs. They look swollen. She said he is showing no signs of lameness or pain. Anyone have any idea of what it is?

Beesting??Tick bite: check all pads and feet...Nan

PS:  I would probably give a benedryl just to be safe and if swelling goes down you know it is some kind of bite.  BOL

I can't tell from those tiny pictures. Has she researched HOD? In the 2nd pic of the tiny ones, they look normal. How familiar is your friend with large breed puppy limbs?

They look normal to me. Looks like the pup has thick hair coat. But if the owner is worried, the vet will do a bunch of blood tests, exrays and then after a couple weeks waiting for 'test' results, tell them nothing wrong.

Are they looking at the wrist joint , thinking it's swollen? Cause it looks fine from here.

That's what I'm wondering, Joan. Are they looking at that giant puppy wrist and thinking that's abnormal (if so, where do they think all that extra leg comes from later? ;) )

Jenni & Joan,

She is going to take him in to see the vet. She also said he had stepped in devils weed. (they drive truck so they are all over the place) She said they don't feel swollen and that it does feel like its the bone. I will see if she will send me another picture. He is a good sized pup (about 3 1/2 months).

I will let her know what you have all said, also will tell her she can come here too.

Might be swollen. Can't tell without touching him, if its hair or swelling. Good she's taking him to a vet...what's devil's weed?

Agree could just turn out to be excess 'knuckle'; bones grow at differing rates, so some pups will show overdevelopment in some areas differently to others of same age. Usually rights itself, but be guided by vets.
