I have one 4 years old GSD female, not pregnant before, each time in season is very short and very little blood and no swelling of the vulva.Three time like that , please advise!

First thing I would check is her thyroid. Do a thorough thyroid panel, not just a T4 test. Also, check progesterone and estrogen levels.

What are you feeding? Some foods contain high amounts of phytoestrogens which can make conception difficult.

Jenni, what is considered 'high amounts of phtoestrogen' ?

Would alphalfa meal #8 and flax seed #9 be a lot?

Just had a bitch come up empty. First time bred 3 yr old female. 4 yr healthy strong male.

Typically, 8 & 9 would *not* be a lot. However, flax is so high, it is much much more likely to cause a problem lower in the list than, say, peas in the first three, although I'd still think that in 8 & 9, it wouldn't be so high. One thing I'd note is whether the manufacturer is "splitting" ingredients. Say, they have "sweet potatoes" as 2 and "yams" as 3. Same thing- really should only be one ingredient. That can make things seem way farther down the list than they really are.

Recently, on a FB breeder discussion, a lot of people feeding grain-free foods with legumes such as lentils were having a lot of females come up empty. All the foods had several legumes plus flax. Food change and next cycle, same females conceived.

Thanks, Jenn. Actually this is the first bitch I had come up empty on this feed. Last litter was a first time litter and no problem. This female now is very pushy and would rather not submit to a male, so, probly not the feed.

I know I had a broblem using totw years ago, plus dogs loosing weight and a friend had the same problem. Never thought about the photoestrogen....I remember that stuff has a lot of legumes.
