I'm so sorry you are dealing with such a sick pup, that is a tough descision or at least for me it would be.  Of course I am still doing everything I can for my geriatric  (14 and 12) dogs, and probably spending money that I could use elsewhere, so I may not be a good judge of when to call it quits.  However, I usually go by quality of life if the money is spent and will treatment add to the suffering or alleviate it.

Hello, I would like to help you, if I may, please.. I've been a handler, trainer & for the past few years a breeder of working lines german shepherds.. Please look up VOM BARTEKS HAUS, you will see how much I admire them... I love this breed above all & spent years studying genetics. I do understand your husband, too. It's not the pup's fault & he needs help! Please help this puppy.. and if you live not too far from me, maybe I an help a little bit more..

If your vet can take care of Parvo, which is treatable, I can help you with the other stuff.
Hookworms & roundworms are relatively easy to take care of, please don't dispair, of course it is not pleasant, but not a problem. I buy a big bottle (16 oz) of human degree PYRANTEL PAMAOATE & treat the pup with it according to its weight, either every other day for 6 days (3 x times altogether) and the problem is gone. You can treat the pup every two weeks with one doze, if the pup is weak.. either method will help with any worms you have problem with.

As to Coccidida (Coccidiosis), there is a very simple & effective medication called `CORID, it's in powder form. You add half a teaspoon to one gallon of water & it is all that the pup drinks, no other water, for 5 weeks, the coccidia should be gone within first week, but you keep giving this water only as a prevention. CORID is very inexpensive, every Tractor Supply or farmer's store carries it. A $10 bag will last you to cover all the neighborhood puppies.

If I can help with anything else, please look me up on Facebook, my name is Basia Barker, Hammonton, NJ. Please send me a message and I will answer as soon as I can. My heart breaks for your pup, but he is not as bad as you may think, it is all treatable, I promise! Ask your vet for a discount, for generic medications, if it is becoming a problem. Tell the vet you want to rescue the puppy from all that ordeal, they should give you some kind of discount while treating Parvo.. the rest is a piece of cake! Wishing you and the pup all the best!

Thank you for great answer and resources Basia. These are,as Basia stated, all curable issues and no reason to put down a pup. I’ve successfully nursed a Tervuren pup back to health by feeding a strained liquid diet as the pup was to weak to eat,it took some effort and time but was more than well worth it for a dog that turned out great. I wish you the best of luck with your new pup.

Just curious how old was the pup when you took him home and how long after that did he display these symtoms. Another words what was the time differential between the two?
