It should be no problem to install a "stop" when people try to enter "names only".
No ancestors, no breed number = no entrance.
Just a thought..

I am glad I don't have to deal with this..

We do not have a problem with AKC dogs over 15 years old. We have a member who helps us who has the complete set of AKC stud books. It is the dogs born after AKC stopped publishing the studbooks that are the problem.
I pay to have access to the sv-doxs.net which has all the German dogs plus many other countries. I also have access to Italian, Slovak, Russian, Finland, Netherlands databases... so they also are not the problem. In addition I have many of the studbooks from other countries back to the earliest dates.
As I said, it is not the older dogs, but the ones born in the last 10 years that are the problem. People have the information. All dogs on PDB must be registered, ... that means that the member entering the data has the registration papers that list the dog and the sire and dam information. So why they think that only a name is sufficient is beyond me. I realize that people may not hav the information beyond the sire and the dam, but they have to have that.
We also are getting an influx of dogs being registered from Serbia, Poland, India, Mongolia (I don't even know their breed book), South Africa, Australia, and other countries and I have no way to get information about most of them except what the SV database has.
As for creating a list, we do not have enough time now to do what we are supposed to do. There are 3 Pedigree Admins for all the dog breeds. There are usually about 50 new entries each day just for GSD's. Really... it is a losing battle. I have been helping for a year now and I see a little improvement...... but not much.

As for installing a stop...... that requires programming and Oli the owner is the only one who can do that.  Besides if he made certain fields mandatory, people would complain even more than they do now when we ask for the information... You should hear all the complaints we get now....... people say, "but we never had to do this before".... and then they ignore us.

I appreciate everything you do here and I can understand your frustration. ((big hug)) It helps to vent, trust me. I don't think there are any easy answers, some follow the rules, others don't. If you make a field *required* then the bad eggs will find ways around it.

I wish PDB would make an advanced search page so you could search on something other than name. I would enter/update more often on here but it's so time consuming to check for sire/dam to prevent dupes. Sometimes the auto-search doesn't work right, or it'll bring up too many with no way to scroll down.

I spend most of my time with my own database but I do like adding/updating PDB. The history of the German Shepherd fascinates me and I love the old lines, watching them start to hook up, coming across a dog with missing info and filling in the blanks. I am addicted! :)

You are awesome Fantom76!!
